Opinions on baby names

edited January 2015 in Pregnant after 35
I am having the hardest time with names this go around. I have narrowed down my list to the following and wanted to get others opinions.

My mother passed away this summer. I am pretty set in having the baby's middle name to be after my mom. Her birth name was Balinda Sue. Which she hated and changed to Susan. Neither of which I am overly fond of. She is buried in a tiny Greek Orthodox cemetery in a tiny village in Crete. The Greek version of her name is Sussana. Which I like much better than Suzanne or suzanna. So, am possibly thinking of the middle name being Sussana.

What do you all think of these first name possibilities?

Re: Opinions on baby names

  • How is the pronunciation of Sussanna different to Suzanna. I'm guessing in my mind, but I'm in NZ so at first glance I would pronounce them the same.

I understand how Susan and Suzanne are different if that helps.

Off your list it was a tough call for me between Hazel and Emmanouela. I went for Hazel only because I can imagine her having to constantly spell Emmanouela for people.

  • Love Emmanouela. :) I also really like the idea of having a name connected to your heritage. It's a conversation starter for me, and I've made some great connections with people who traveled to, were from, or were interested in my country.
  • The only difference is an "s" sound compared to a "z" sound in the name. Just not a fan of the "z" sound. But like the idea of using my moms Greek name.

    Thanks ladies.

  • My h's mom passed away and we wanted to somehow incorporate her name but we didn't want to use her first name and neither one of us was fond of her middle name. So I came up with the idea of using her middle name (Lee) attached to the end of something so it would exist within another name. If you have a hard time and get stuck maybe that would be an option.
Me:41, DH:41 Positive for MTHFR mutations- one copy C677T, one copy A1298C. One daughter born on Thanksgiving in 2013. Six losses.
  • My mom didn't have a middle name I would use. It was sue before she changed it to Susan. After that no middle name. If only. Thanks.

  • I can't vote on just one because I like several. :)

    I think Sussana is beautiful.

I love Emmanouela.  I love that it's attached to your heritage and it's just really pretty in general.

I also do love Corinne and Aubrey.

I'm having a hard time with names this time too!

  • Hazel is a favorite of mine as it was my Grandma's name. One of my other cousins already used it along with my materanl Grandmother's name Emily.
