Warming up bottles

Hi-
I was just wondering how everyone prepares their bottles. I make bottles for the day (LO eats every 3 hours). We use the Dr. Brown bottles and keurig water to heat up the bottles. I was wondering how everyone heats up their lo's bottles. I feel like my keurig is not warming the bottles quickly enough. I'm debating buying a bottle warmer but not sure if it's really worth the money.

Thanks!

Re: Warming up bottles

  • I have the Munchkin bottle warmer and it's pretty handy- heats most 4oz bottles in 2-3 min. My only complaint is that I wish the water reservoir was larger. Also, my DS is starting to take over 4oz just before bed and the warmer doesn't fit the larger Dr Browns bottles :/

  • I have a bottle warmer I got from a kids consignment shop. Heats them up super fast.

  • I received a The First Years bottle warmer as a shower gift and it works very well. It also has a cooler in the back to store 2 bottles if you want to leave the warmer upstairs for easier MOTN feedings, as well as a pacifier sanitizer.

  • We use the Dr. Brown's bottle warmer. It's great. We only do one bottle daily but it's at 3am (hubby's feed) and it makes things much easier. He just puts it in when he gets up and it's warm by the time he's done changing her. Definitely worth it for us!

  • We make bottles on demand usually, and refridgerater any leftovers for next feeding. To reheat, we have the Munchkin bottle warmer, my neighbor gave it too me since she is done having kids. It's been a life savor. We use Avent bottles and they fit perfectly. We also have the Munchkin travel bottle warmer, for when we are out and about. It does not fit our Avent bottles, however. So I keep one of the Medela bottles that came with my pump on hand, it fits perfectly. We don't use it to feed, just to warm up. I've been pleased with both warmers.

  • We use the playtex bottles with the plastic drop-in liners, so I'm not sure if any bottle warmers work for that style. (If anyone knows, I'd love to hear!) We just use a wide cup and really hot tap water. It works fine and takes about 2-3 minutes. --- I pre-make the bottles and keep them in the fridge.
  • We've just been holding the bottle under hot running water for a few minutes and that seems to do the trick.

  • We used to microwave water in a Pyrex glass for 20-30 seconds and then place the Dr. Brown bottle in it. Took a bit of time. A friend passed on their Kiinde bottle warmer. It takes about 5 minutes to warm 2 oz (we feed 2 oz of breast milk and then 1-3 oz of formula). We use the standard (not wide) Dr. Brown bottles but the warmer is shaped for breast milk bags and wider bottles as well.

Sometimes, I wish it was faster.

  • We just float the bottle in a cup of hot water.

    Daycare uses a crockpot.

"Bottle warmers" are a waste of money and space IMO. I try to go by the Alton Brown philosophy "no uni-taskers".

  • We do the bottle in bowl of water from the tap. It works well -- our kitchen faucet water gets super hot -- but we have realized LO doesn't care that much. Yesterday she was screaming hangry that dh gave it to her barely warmed, just the chill off, and she drank it as usual. So it might be worth a try to see if your LO needs it as warm...

  • I heat up water in a mug I the microwave and heat up the bottle in that for a minute.

  • @MrsAdventure‌ - when you make on demand, is it formula (I can't remember if you are eff) and do you have issues with clumps or concerns about air bubbles that haven't settled?

We usually make about a day's supply ahead, but for on the go, would just like to bring powder and water to avoid ice pack etc. Enfamil does leave enough clumps that shaking hard enough to dissolve leaves bubbles that I'm afraid will lead to gassy baby.

  • I put hot tap water in a glass and microwave for 30 sec then put a bottle in (Dr. Brown's). Usually takes about 3-5 minutes for 4 oz bottle.

I haven't noticed any difference in terms of gas with just made formula versus premade. We use similac sensitive and it is very foamy when first mixed.

  • @gldnbearz we combo feed, but she only gets BM right before bed. The reason we make bottles on demand is that we care for my grandmother who has alztimers and a bunch of bottle in the fridge just confuses and aggitates her. Plus in the morning, between making three different breakfasts, helping DH take care of Pips and pumping, I'm just too lazy to make bottles too.

As for clumping and air bubbles, neither have been an issue at all, thankfully.

  • @schrijiver‌ sometimes I use room temp water. I keep a bottle of water in the diaper bag. If we are are out shopping and Pips decides she needs a bottle right then and there and we're not in the car, then she gets what's on hand and doesn't care at all. I could probably do this all of the time, but I feel like she goes to sleep easier with a belly full of warm milk.

  • Thanks for all of the advice! I microwaved water for each feeding today and warmed the bottles while changing LO. It seemed to work out better than the keurig water.
  • We make our bottles on demand with this one but with my first LO we kept a small crockpot of water plugged in and set it in there for about 2 minutes, shake it and ready to go.

  • We use the Dr Brown bottle warmer. Well worth the money!! I even bought a second for my moms house when she keeps him. Right now 4 oz bottles take 3+ min. Great for midnight feelings. I can start the bottle, change my son and the bottle is ready to go by the time we are finished! Definitely recommend that investment.
  • We use the cuisinart baby warmer. There's no water reservoir or storage cooler but it's small and compact enough to use both at the house and to travel with as it fits easily in the diaper bag. It steams the bottles. Technically you're supposed to measure a certain water amount dependi ng in the bottle type and size and when the water steams out, it's ready so there's no watching it. My husband and I typically just dump water in the bottom as we've learned the bottle is ready just after we've finished changing him. My car actually has an outlet in it so on errand day we just plug it in and we are set to feed at any point. Eliminates stress. It fits the 4 Oz and 9 Oz Avent bottles and has a food basket to warm the little food jars if that is ever needed. It also has a night light for MOTN feedings. The warmer automatically cuts off once the water has all steamed away.

  • As a wishful splurge, SO and I decided to put the Baby Breeza on our registry. Best thing ever, you choose the oz and it makes the bottle each time to the perfect temp. (Obviously you should check) No premade bottles taking up space in your fridge or anything. I owe my brother so much for this!
  • I have the Brezza and it started clogging, not giving enough powder. My LO was wicked cranky because she was getting watered down formula, and she was spitting up way more than normal because of how thin it was. Decided to just make my own bottles with room temp spring water. So far, she's back to her normal self.
