Hey moms. Do you gals have any preference on laundry detergent for baby? I am thinking of going with Tide Free and gentle so I can use it for all clothes in the household. Opinions?
I always used Dreft with mine for the first year then switched to Tide Free. Mine all have super sensitive skin though. I think they are both ok and if you want to avoid 2 separate detergents then the Tide may be the way to go. If your LO gets a rash or it appears to bother him/her just switch to using Dreft.
@cawleyva I didn't know that. I will be looking at the label before I purchase. I may try the Tide free and clear myself. It's been awhile since I had a LO.
I vote Tide free and clear as well. It's a good idea to use the same detergent on your clothes as well since baby will be on you most of the time. And free and clear is allergen free
I've used All Free and Clear for years and plan to use that for baby as well. I sometimes break out in hives if the detergent smell is too strong, and for some reason I always assumed baby related products wouldn't have really strong scents. I was really surprised when I realized that Dreft has a strong fragrance. I would definitely start off with the Tide or All free and clear instead.
Thanks ladies!! I will go with the Tide free. I hate the way Dreft smells and I had no idea it had perfumes/fragrances in it. I guess I just assumed it would be free from all of that since that seems to be alot of mom's go to detergent.
@laur1020 I use the honest company detergent and like it. I can't say that I've tried it on any crazy stains or anything, but it is serving me well, and I just feel better using natural products
For those asking about the Honest Company detergent, I've been using it for both our regular laundry and cloth diapers for the last 2 years (both the liquid and powder) and it gets things clean. For bad stains I use an all-natural Imse Vimse stain bar and the combination will get almost anything.
We used arm and hammer free and clear with my son. This time, I'll be using a&h sensitive with a scent. I've heard too many "horror" stories of Deft and rashes with babes. My siblings and I all had reactions to it so I'm not going to bother.
I use whatever dye & color-free detergent happens to be on sale when I need it. My son has never had any kind of reaction to it, regardless of the brand.
I originally thought I wanted to buy Tide Free so I could do all our laundry together, but the Tide Free is so much more expensive than Original Tide I think that I will still wash baby stuff separate. Now that I know everything about all the fragrance in Dreft, though, I will definitely make my second detergent Tide Free - I'm sensitive to fragrances! Not my skin, but my nose and eyes!
Dreft is so full of fragrance I don't get how it's for babies. And it's ludicrously expensive. Both my girls have eczema (well DD1 outgrew it) and I have used any version of Free and Clear that's on sale. Tide, Arm and Hammer, All, etc. They all make free and clear. And it works well for their skin. I just use the same for the whole family.
Though I've been on a pinterest spiral and might make my own with borax, fels naptha, epsom salts, etc. we'll see how that works :-)
I will avoid any of those. They're both toxic. Do some research on the toxicity of conventional laundry detergent. Even "fragrance free" most likely has fragrance. Check ingredients. You'll be shocked about what you'll read! I'll be using a 100% toxic free detergent with my babes!

I'm glad you posted! My 18 month old has eczema and I've been using deft the whole time because I thought that was the most delicate detergent for babies with eczema...I guess I'm going to the store today to try the free and clear stuff you talked about! Thanks!
Just checked my local grocery store and it turns out Tide original and Tide Free and Gentle is the same price here - guess I'll be switching all of us over to F and G.
Yep-like pp said, Dreft has lots of fragrance. I have no idea why they market it to parents of newborns. Horrible.
I use a free and clear brand. And I use it for all of us now so I don't have to buy two different brands.

If my Lil one had a reaction to tide free and clear then I would consider a more natural product...and she hasn't we will continue to buy the tide free and clear.

@peteresa, I'm so sorry. It's the worst! I'm sure you've tried lots of things. I go between coconut oil and thick white eucerin for moisturizer, and gentle cleanser like cetaphil. DD2 has it really bad because of an underlying immune issue so we have to use steroid creams on her when it's bad. But coconut oil is gentle and good for everyday use. Hope your LO outgrows it! But no detergent ever made a difference.
I personally have a skin sensitivity to Tide products and have only used All Free & Clear for the last couple of years.
But doing some online searching I saw that Wal-Mart sells this brand called Seventh Generation. All their cleaning/housing products are organic and natural, within a reasonable price.
Has anyone tried them before and if so do you recommend?
I used Dreft for DS1 and loved the smell- I think it was just because all his stuff smelled like it and so it made me think about him whenever I smelled it. I used free & clear detergents for DS2 because Dreft was a little too expensive.

Ecos, it is cheap, made in the USA, CD safe, free and clear ( at least the variety we buy I think they make some with fragrance). My DD had skin issues and we had no problems using ECOS.
I use tide free and clear which is what I use for all our laundry and I also have purchased Purex Baby Liquid which I have been able to find at Wal-Mart and its relatively cheap and works great.
