Amniotic Fluid Low?

Hope this hasn't already been asked, I looked but didn't see anything! Today my US tech said that my amniotic fluid was low & I needed to drink more water & in a week to come back we would check it? I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this & if I should be really concerned?

Re: Amniotic Fluid Low?

  • If they were REALLY concerned, they would have done an NST (i.e. listened to baby's heart beat for 20 minutes, if they could) or wanted more monitoring. Try not to stress about it, and drink lots of fluids as they said. What did the OB say about it?

  • I would take it as serious and be drinking a shit load for the follow up scan next week.
Other then that, I've never been through it so fx everything is ok at your next scan

  • I carry a 30 oz bottle with me all the time and try to fill it 3 times. I know that much can be difficult at first. My suggestion would be to buy gallon of water and write times of the day in sharpie on the side. That will help you meet your goal and make sure you aren't trying to make up a whole days worth at 6 pm when you realize you haven't had enough.
  • During my last pregnancy I was almost two weeks overdue and was having scans twice a week. I had spent the previous day out shopping with my mother and did a terrible job drinking water. At my scan the next day I had low fluids and the Dr. wanted to induce immediately. After discussing the risk with my midwife, she suggested I go home and drink a ton of water and check again the next day. When I came back after drinking a boatload of water, my fluid was back up much to the Dr's surprise. So yes, drink lots of water!

  • Had this with my last 2. My first was induced due to this but she had a blood clot in the placenta.
My last one was like this and fluctuated depending on fluid intake. We made it to 37 wks with her. They are both healthy girls running around me. Just like PP say drink fluid!
  • It can be a symptom of a serious problem, but it can also mean that you are dehydrated. So take the drinking water pretty seriously this week. That way when you do go back you will know if it is something to be worried about or if you just needed more water.

  • This happened to me a few weeks ago. I had been drinking a gallon a day anyhow and a week later it was cleared up. No worries. Best of luck!

  • Op sorry you're going through a scare... I thought I was pretty well up on all my pregnancy info...but I have to clarify....is 100 oz the usual suggestion? I need to up my intake.
  • I am definitely drinking way more water than I have been. I was drinking 4-5 bottles a day, but I'm trying to double that. They didn't seem too concerned but I could tell it was enough to make me come back in a week. I am nervous for the doctor but praying everything will be just fine! Thank you so much for the advice! :)
  • This post just made me re-evaluate my fluid intake, I am going to increase it starting tomorrow.  I usually drink 3-4 Nalgene (32oz) bottles, but I'm really only good about it when I am at work which is just 3x a week.  I need to start doing 4-5 bottles every day and I'm going to really try hard this week before my next scan on Friday so hopefully this doesn't happen.  Sorry you're going through this, I'm really praying @cassidyrae21 that your fluid levels come up!
