Still not using those hands!

So my son was 4 months on the 8th and he is still not reaching for toys or anything. He constantly sucks on his hands but doesn't seem to be figuring out how they work yet. Our ped said around 2 months that he should be starting to reach...how are everyone else's babies doing with the hand control??

My LO has been reaching since about 3 months. Don't be freaked out by everyone else's milestones or milestones that are generically set. YOU know your baby, if you think there is something wrong, get him checked out now.

LO turned 4 months on the 27th and just within the past week or two has he really been grabbing things.

My LO will be 4 weeks on Sunday -- he's just started grabbing things, but rarely reaches. His interest level just isn't there yet -- it will come.

First, was your baby born at 40 weeks? If not, then you need to adjust for their development age. Also, I don't think most babies start reaching at 8 weeks. It may be later than that. Most importantly, the milestones are just a general list of items to be taken as a whole, not a timetable for individual tasks. Otherwise, every baby who turned 4 months old on the same day would do the exact same thing. Maybe your baby didn't get the memo that he's supposed to be reaching. Maybe he hasn't seen anything worth reaching for. Maybe he's too busy working on some other awesome talent, like rolling over or babbling.

Long story short, unless your baby is missing a bunch of other milestones, then there's nothing to worry.

He's very observant, just not interactive, which is fine

I'll ask the dr at his next appointment in a couple weeks. I'm not freaked out about it or anything, just curious how other little ones are doing with it. Thanks for the responses!

My LO will be 4 months next week and is not reaching yet either. She grabs her taggies stuffed animals if they are next to her head but doesn't actually reach for anything. I'm not worried though. She has hit other milestones on time and others really far ahead. Babies develop in their own way, at their own pace. Don't worry too much as long as your LO is still thriving overall
