2nd Trimester

Morning sickness out of control

this is my third pregnancy and I'm currently 15w3d. Through my first pregnancy I stayed sick every day until my DD was born. I was prescribed phenergan and it helped when I was able to take it. I wasn't as sick in my second but that pregnancy ended in loss at 19 weeks. With this one I've been sick every single day since before 6 weeks. Usually it's first thing in the morning and I can take a zofran and be ok for a couple of hours and a phenergan at bedtime and it's all gravy. Yesterday halfway through the day they stopped working. I've thrown up 3 times since I went to bed last night despite having taken a phenergan and 2 other zofran. I'm going to call my doctor Monday morning if this continues. Can you ladies suggest anything else that's helped you? Are there any other medications out there that I could ask my doctor about to help a momma like me so I don't end up dehydrated?

  • I see a lot of people saying sea bands work for them. I've personally never tried. I like lemon and or peppermint water, frosted flakes are a huge help for me. G2 Gatorade also.

  • Call your OBs after hours line. They may have something else to suggest or may want you to go to L&D to check if you need fluids. Dehydration is no joke!
  • I'm living off mamas morning tea most days. Helps a lot.

  • Try ginger tea in the morning...
  • Preggie Drops are a day to day lifesaver!
  • Try Diclegis it really has been helping me!
  • I lost 15 pounds from being very sick in my first trimester. One thing that would stay down was fresh fruit! I bought the already cut up and packaged kind from the produce section at walmart. Cantaloupe, watermelon, apples, and grapes! It was a life saver! Good luck and hopefully the sickness will pass, mine finally did at 15 weeks!
  • That sounds terrible!  My wife's still dealing with nausea (17 weeks) but nothing that extreme.

I've had stomach issues (acid reflux/heartburn) for years.  I take omeprazole over the counter (generic form of Prilosec OTC).  I think that my wife is currently dealing with more acid reflux at this point then the morning sickness from pregnancy, so she just checked with her doctor and they said it's fine for her to take omeprazole while she's pregnant.  I'm hoping that helps her out.

Check with your doctor, but if you think it might be acid reflux you can take omeprazole every morning and it should start to help in 3-4 days.  Just make sure you keep taking it every single day or else the symptoms will come back.

  • For my first pregnancy i got to zofran pump in my thigh. It helped me because i couldnt take anything orally id throw it up. I lost 26lbs do to hyperemesis gravidarum i was 6months prego and i weighed 86lbs no fun. Im 15weeks along ams have it just not as bad ive lost 15lbs and i alternate phenagren suppository form and zofran
  • Try nibbling on a slice of apple even before you get up. I did that for my worst days. Keep hydrated lot of water and if you like fresh coconut juice helped me on my cactus days.
