Robitussin?

Hi ladies... I have a nasty cold and my doctor said it was Ok to have "regular Robitussin".... Great news until the robitussin aisle had a million varieties.... Anyone take Robitussin during pregnancy - curious which variety you took? I have been sticking with the tea and honey thing but thinking I might need the medication!

    My med list says "robitussin DM". I'm not familiar with robitussin so I'm not sure if that narrows it down!

    I had a cold this week too. DM, Tylenol, and cepacol are all ok :) hope you feel better soon!

    Thank you! Maybe she was referring to regular strength instead of maximum strength? It's amazing how a simple thing like a cold becomes so complicated when you are pregnant!

    My ob nurse said children's Robitussin long lasting. It didn't do shit, other than make me feel worse, but turns out I had/have a sinus infection, so... Yeah. Wasn't going to help anyway. Good luck op. I wish we could just take nyquil!

    ^^^this. Brand labels are ridiculously confusing. Just read the generic ingredients and look for one or both of these two ingredients (depending on your symptoms)...either/or are ok. Guaifenisen to break up chest mucus and dextromethorphan to keep the cough down.

    I lost my list of "safe" medications. The only thing I'll take is Tylenol. I too have been battling a cold (no fever) for some time now. My MIL called the pharmacy she works at and her pharmacist recommended I not take Robutussin.

    When I researched it a bit further, I see that you can take it, but it's labeled class C. From what I understand, it's considered safe but there is not enough research to say either way, so I'm choosing to ride this out.

    I'm sure if I call my Dr. today, or just find my list, it would be on there and I would take it. My symptoms aren't unbearable though, so it's easy to make this decision.

    I wouldn't overly stress about this one. Just be sure to take just the recommended doses of the plain Robutussin.

    My doctor had me take robitussin for diabetics (which I think DH had to get from the pharmacist?) Its the same thing as robitussin DM, but has a much lower dose of the dexo...whatever. The DM stuff :)

    In short: When in doubt, ask a medical professional (this includes a pharmacist).
    Some pharmacists may not help though. My DH actually asked the pharmacist for me when he was out. She said she was not allowed to give advice and told him to call the dr. That's when my MIL called her boss to see what she would recommend (a licensed pharmacist). It was that pharmacist who said no to all of it.

    Personally I would just stay away unless you really need something. In that case, talk to your dr. and see what their professional option is on robutussin.

    I had the same issue when looking for Mucinex. I had no idea there were so many kinds so I gave up. You should be able to use a netipot for sinus and humidifier to help if you are dealing with congestion.

    Yes, a humidifier was great and tea with honey is a life saver.... Haven't needed the medication yet.... Also saline nose drops were helpful relieving nasal congestion.
