Trouble TTC a Sibling

Should I have H come to my HSG?

Hi all, I've just been referred to an RE and did my CD3 bloodwork, and H has an order for an SA.  I have my HSG scheduled (their normal protocol is to do all three of these things), and I'm wondering if those of you who have been through one would recommend that MH come with me.  Moral support, at least?  It shouldn't be an issue for him to come with me, I'm just usually very self-sufficient.

Re: Should I have H come to my HSG?

  • I went by myself and wished my H would have been there. Our place would have let him come back and it would have been nice to have him there just to squeeze my hand. I had a few complications through so the procedure was more painful than others I talked to have experienced. Although the procedure only took about 10 minutes.

  • DH came with me but he was not allowed in the room while they were doing it. after it was over they brought him into the room to shut the findings were. Its always good to have him for support just in case you need it. good luck!

  • Thanks so much for the well wishes! I'll see if he can make it then. We're headed to Vegas that night, so at least we'll have some quality time together.

  • My H was out of town on a business trip when I had mine so I went alone. I wouldn't have had him come anyway, but it would have been nice if he were home when I got home to give me a hug because I wasn't expecting to have a blocked tube but I did. It wasn't uncomfortable at all and I was fine to drive home, etc.

  • Make him come, girlfriend. This is his deal too. Physically it is no big deal, emotionally it can be a lot. I was diagnosed with a uterine abnormality at mine (totally unexpected, hit me like a ton of bricks). You will do fabulously, I'm sure, but just in case, bring somebody you love. I felt very alone.

  • I was glad that MH was with that day.  He had come in because they wanted to do bloodwork and stuff on him and we met with the RE right after the test, but even if he hadn't been "needed" it was nice to have him there for support and to drive me home.  (though I probably could have managed on my own, I was pretty crampy)

    Good luck.

  • Just wanted to update: H had a meeting at work that he couldn't miss, and I couldn't reschedule the HSG to a different time, so I went without him.  It was totally fine!  No more than mild discomfort that passed quickly, thankfully.  Both tubes were open, but the radiologist did say that there's an area in the uterus that she'd characterize as mild adenomyosis, but the RE will talk to me about it.  She didn't think it would prevent me from becoming pregnant.
