High Blood Pressure?

Last week I went to the dr. for my 32 week checkup and she sent me to labor & delivery observation because my blood pressure was 134/92. At observation they did blood work (liver, kidney, cbc), checked for protein in urine, monitored the baby and also recorded my blood pressure for an hour and a half. Everything was normal (blood work normal, no protein in urine, baby heartbeat fine and my bp was down to 133/77) At that point I was told to go home and if I had any symptoms to go back.

Today I had a follow up appointment and my blood pressure was 139/91 so she recommended that I go back to l&d and re-do all the tests as well as recommends an ultrasound to check baby growth and NST testing 2 times per week until delivery.

This all seems like over kill to me. I have no symptoms (other than usual pregnancy aches/pains, headaches, etc) and had higher blood pressure before I was pregnant. (Never been on medication and she doesn't recommend it at this time as my numbers aren't high enough)

Do I really need to be monitored this closely or would monitoring at home and going in if my numbers are over 150/100 be sufficient?

We are not your doctor and I doubt anyone here is going to advise you to ignore your doctors requests of you. If your doctor feels you should be monitored this closely then I would go with her as she is the one who knows your medical history. That said if you disagree or are questioning her advice, you should pose this question to her and let her explain why she thinks it is indeed necessary and you can make your decision from there.

Agree - listen to your dr. I've been admitted to L&D three times already for high blood pressure and will deliver early because of it - I don't have pre-e because my ave BP is about what yours is. But this is no joke. You could have a stroke. Its a good day when my dr has me come in to be monitored and then I get sent home.

I am sorry you are going through this and please ask your Dr many questions. I understand the frustration but please listen to your doctor!!

I am with @Skrittens‌ on this one. I had PIH with my previous pregnancy and was borderline pre-e for a long time. DS ended up being delivered 6 weeks early after a 2 week hospitalization for me. It's not a joke.

That said, if my BP is high when first taken (when I first get in to see dr) I usually ask for it to be taken again. Sometimes we get anxious for the appointments and it can raise BP. It doesnt hurt to ask for another to be taken. Good luck

Lurker coming out for this. My first son was born at 31 weeks because my BP was suddenly high. Not pre-e (no protein) but they told me that if it had spiked higher I could've had a stroke and we both could have died. I would have given anything for a warning and testing to be prepared. I had no symptoms until it was too far gone. Listen to your doctor.

I delivered at 29 weeks 3 weeks ago from severe preeclampsia. It came on very fast. Within six days my protein went from 250 to almost 4,000. What's even scarier is one thing it can affect is the oxygen supply the baby is getting which is why they want to do a growth ultrasound. I would do anything my doctor reccomended if it could affect me or worse my baby.

Thanks for your input ladies. (Especially the ones that weren't snarky but realized I'm a scared mom to be)
I asked because this is a dr stepping in for my midwife who went on medical leave unexpectedly. I have never seen her before and didn't know if she was just being overly cautious.

You are a "scared mom to be" and internet strangers would have calmed you down better than medical professionals?

I had pre e with my first and if it hadn't been for my doctors "overkill", I would have lost my daughter. No one was snarky to you, listen to your doctor

I am doing the same thing you are. 2 times a week. Ultrasound, NST.... thru Feb and March. I think it's overkill a bit. But I am not a dr. nor do I play one on TV. So I will just fo what they tell me. I have to drive an hour each way to get there, but that was my choice
