Thoughts about boy name "Smith."

Hi- Having a boy and can't decide on a first name. Husband likes more unique names, while I am a traditional gal. My dad's family name is "Smith" so I was thinking that could be a cute first name. Thoughts? His name would be "Smith Anderson." Not sure on middle name...

But he could be "Schmitty!!!!" We're dealing with Smith as a last name and trying to not pick too generic of a first name....I'm always a fan of last names for first names though....

I, personally, am not a fan of last names as first names.

I, too, think of Smith Jarrod from SATC. But that just makes me like it more. DH and I are all about nontraditional names, as long as it isn't generally used as the name of a fruit or a planet or something super out there, I'm game.

I would never use it but I kind of like it. Probably because I liked a character on Cougar Town named Smith and I also seriously love that show. I think Smith as a middle name is a good compromise.

I like it. I think it's a great way to honor your dad and family. If you like it, I say go for it. My maiden name is Clark and I'm hoping to use it as a middle name for my LO.

Smithas is a good name too, but I think the traditional spelling is Smithass.

Longtime lurker with a similar last name for first name query. What about Sullivan for a first name? I've always planned on using my father's name as a middle name as he passed away when I was very young. So I wouldn't use Sullivan as a middle name.

The full name would be Sullivan Mark Try (not our last name but rhymes with it.). Ramy3, thoughts? I feel you are a kindred spirit when it comes to names based on previous posts.

Personally I wouldn't use Smith as a first name, it's a last name so it would just be confusing and a burden to the kid... But that's just my opinion.

I liked it initially, but seeing that his last name is also super common I think its a bad idea. I think it would cause lots of confusion throughout his life.
