Leaking fluid

I went to a specialist yesterday and one of their routine questions was if I've been leaking any fluid. I said no because I'm not that I know of but I have had discharge (which my OB says is normal). Now I'm wondering...I would know if I was leaking fluid right? Cause if my underwear have a pad in them for discharge, how would I know if I'm leaking?

Re: Leaking fluid

  • If you feel like you peed yourself would be a good indication that something is not right.

If you're filling up a pad an hour of fluid, that's not normal.  If it's just normal discharge, I would not be worried.

If I was worried at all I would talk to my ob about signs of leaking. I personally would not buy test strips to check discharge for amniotic fluid, especially at this point.
    This.

If it's not a lot it's likely just discharge or (sorry) urine.
  • I think this is one of those, ask your doctor if you are concerned. In the later weeks you can sometimes pee and think its amniotic fluid. And sometimes it's not pee so better to check.

  • I think you would know that something weren't right if you were leaking fluid. I also dont think it's common enough for you to be all that overly concerned about.
  • You would know for the most part.... it would feel like you are constantly dripping, or like you peed a little bit (I totally asked my OB about this when I had some abnormal pain/cramping last week and she told me to be on an eye out for it. I made her spell it out for me. lol)  If you are really concerned though and dont feel like you are getting a clear answer- your OB nurses or a midwife would be happy to answer that for you if you called them. Its not the craziest question they'll hear (EG, I overheard at my appt on tuesday "I mean, he can't poke out my mucus plug, right?"  I straight up headsnapped around to see who said it but she was out of site at the desk.)
