One & Done anyone?

I'm trying to remember if we did a One & Done check in on this board or not. But who are the One & Done ladies?!?

DH and I are 90% sure we are, however I'm having serious issues saying we are 100%. How do I get over this hump and just be a peace with it?

Reasons for being One & Done for us:

my fears of another m/c (biggest fear) long story short, I worried through my ENTIRE pregnancy I'd m/c or something terrible would happen
I feel old, 35, will likely be 36 by the time #2 would arrive
Our family of 3 just feels perfect!
Money........(lame excuse I know!)
Scared of the amount of work it is, I've spoiled DH and I do 99% of the childcare...so thinking of doing this for 2 makes me exhausted

My ONE and only reason for wanting #2 is so J has a brother or sister to grow up with....

Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

Re: One & Done anyone?

  • @jobiann,

DEF one and done here.  Ditto all your reasons except that I'm forty-freaking-five years old, and there is no way I'm putting my body through miscarriage/pregnancy again.  Plus, while DH has made huge strides recently, he has not been as involved with the day-to-day work of child rearing as I thought he might be, and it's just not feasible for me to work full time and raise 2u2.

Looking forward to having a cushy enough budget with only one to take her fun places, etc.  I am sad that she won't have a sibling, though.

@ReeceFamily Seriously...you're 45??!! You don't look it! I would have guessed you 10 years younger from the picture in your siggy! Not that 45 year olds are OLD....by any means!

    And thanks @2013Mommy

I haven't been over at the OAD board as much as I shoudl have, I have to check them out on the other place!

  • We (and when I say "we" I mean "i") decided on a second because I was so fearful that if (god forbid) something happened to DH & I, it would leave DS all alone (no immediate family) and that just broke my heart thinking about it. My friends, who is an only child, is the one that put that in my head. I hadn't ever thought about that because I have 3 siblings, so it just scared me. DD is awesome and I love her to pieces (obviously) BUT, it is a lot of work having two, and she is a HANDFUL. Complete opposite her brother. Not gonna lie, there are days where I ask myself why I chose to have 2.....but then there are days where I have so much joy watching them together.
They both have their pros and cons, and neither is better....just more correct for your family. ;)

It is a bit different on how to edit it now. Go to the top right of the page where there is a little "head figure". If you hoover over it it will say "account options", click that and it will take you to the option to change your siggy. I can't remember exactly from there where you go...but I think it's pretty easy. If you can't figure it out let me know!

  • DH and I were torn and I still have a lot of misgivings but we are going ahead to try this spring for a second.  I am scared but I just think about how much joy DD brings to us and I know in my heart that I have one more in me.

  • We are OAD! I used to think I would have two but just the three of us seems so right. Also, I am 42, turning 43 this year and having one at this age is already tiring enough. DD has loads of friends that she plays with every week who have older siblings that come along and also 4 cousins close to her in age.

  • @spikeinc - yay, another 40+ mom :)!

  • DH wants to be OAD but I'm fairly certain I want one more. I just "don't feel it in my bones," I kept trying to want to be OAD. I absolutely see the perks of being done but I think I'll regret it and blame DH if we don't have another.

Neither of us is ready yet, that's for sure, so we're going to talk about it again in about a year. Just see what we're both feeling.
  • We are fence sitters, too. We obviously wanted a 2nd but last year's 2 m/c's wreaked havoc on our life, relationship, and my body/mind. So we are oad for now until we decide differently and for all of the reasons you stated. We are a pretty comfortable family of 3.
