Trouble TTC

New here. Starting clomid. needing support.

edited January 2015 in Trouble TTC
Hi everyone. This is my first time posting in a forum. I've spent a good part of my time trying to conceive reading through forums as inspiration, but I finally decided I could use the support of an actual group I can talk to. We have been trying to conceive for a year and 2 months now. Have had a few tests done and so far were unable to figure out why it's not happening for us. I just started my first round of 50mg clomid today, and wondering if anyone else is there with me? Or does anyone have any stories to share about their time with clomid? Thanks ladies. And good luck to everyone on their ttc journeys!

Re: New here. Starting clomid. needing support.

  • I have an OB but she is really great. We tested my husband first and he came back all good. I had an hsg done after that and it came back good also. My OB wants me to try one round of clomid and then come in to test my progesterone levels if it doesn't work. I will definitely check thay board out though. Thank you for responding. I hope they come up with an awesome game plan for you that works quick!

Welcome to 3T! Sorry you find yourself here. Glad your having the proper testing done before starting Clomid.

What sort of monitoring are you having done? Why I'm asking is because OB's generally do not monitor properly. They're great at keeping you pregnant, but not so great at getting you pregnant (that's what an RE is for!) During a cycle on Clomid you should have regular bloodwork and ultrasounds. The reason for this is that Clomid has the risk of thinning your lining, causing cysts, and causing HOM (High Order Multiples). Please make sure you get proper monitoring.

    Edit.. bloodworm? weirdness.
  • No, she never mentioned anything about ultrasounds. Only coming in to test my progesterone levels if it didn't work after the first round. I had no idea I should have been looking in to an RE. My OB is great and came highly recommended in my area, but looks like I may have to look in to some other options. Thanks for your reply!
  • @daniellewhitefield definitely go to an RE. I just did my first round of Clomid, and I ended up stair stepping to 100 mg and I had a total of 4 transvaginal ultrasounds to monitor my progress.

Also, there are A LOT of tests that need to be done to get a diagnosis and approach treatment properly. I think REs are the only ones truly equipped.

    Sorry you're here. GOOD LUCK!

  • daniellewhitefield I am new too and in the same boat.  I know I do not ovulate on my own at all.  I tried Chlomid 50 and it did not work (bad hot flashes). I went up to 100 and did not notice the hot flashes but had terrible belly problems :-(.  Only for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th days.  No follicles yet :-(.

Not much to offer you, but a lending ear and any support I can.

I am seeing an RE like the rest have suggested.  You may want to check into one so that you can monitored every few days once off Chlomid to have an exact timing of intercourse or even to know if any follicles have grown.

  • Hello There and Welcome!
All of the ladies above gave you great advice.  I am glad to see that you emailed and RE.  I have taken clomid during my last two cycles of IUI and never had any side effects.  Didn't feel a thing.  I am closely monitored by my RE's office though which is a huge comfort.
I cringe when Ob's offer clomid because my OB diagnosed me with a bicornuate uterus and then gave me clomid to take. I went straight to an RE and thank goodness I did because Clomid can produce twins and a bicornuate uterus can't hold twins.  You would think an OB knows that.  Also, my RE ran more tests and I don't have a bicornuate uterus at all.  Moral of a the story, get an appointment with an RE!!!!!!  Ob's are great and knowledgeable, but not when it comes to IF.

Hot flashes are the worst and only real side effect I have. Luckily it's very cold where I love so I stand in the doorway or crack a window and it works great. :)

My story is sorta similar. I'm starting my first round of Clomid on my next cycle per my OBGYN... Now I did mention it to him bc we were ready to conceive like now- lol so I did my research first and everything I researched my OB said and is going to do. He mentioned the ultrasound and testing tubes and blood work and doing the trigger shot. So I think it's all in your doctor you have bc OBs should mention everything up front and then decide what's best for you. I'm not sure what an RE is but I'm guessing it's a specialist. But your OB should be able to give you a trigger shot if your not ovulating with Clomid. But GL and hope this cycle works out for you! I hate taking pills so I'm not looking forward to it.
