Why do Dr's offices suck?? (vent)

Bella - you will appreciate this.

Everyone remember my story of the destroyed frozen embryos? The day it happened, my RE told us we would never be on the hook for anything financially ever again. Then the FET that day failed, and I quickly caught on to phrases like "A free cycle" which were used more than once. Fast forward to my Beta, which went to my insurance company, as well as the follow up beta.

I called on Monday and was told that my "free cycle" ended once I got pregnant. Um - WTF? While I do understand this protocol, (as she explained it things are billed completely different for IVF and pregnancy - I still call BS. As far as I am concerned, a free cycle should end when you release me to my OB... And given the magnitude of what your staff did (hello, she lost 4 quality blasts from when I was 32!!!!!!, I am now 35)...... I think it's pretty despicable that you try and chintz. But alas, I took it with a grain of salt and carried on rather than fighting with them (since I am now on the hook for my ultra sound from this week, and all bloodwork after my 2nd beta)...... But then today I decided to try and pull a fast one. I need more progesterone, so I placed a refill order against the script they had paid for (since they set it up for 3 refills on all meds)..... The script is for 3 vials, I kindly only ordered 1 since I am supposed to come off of this next week... Total of $38..... and the pharmacy just called to tell me my dr's office won't cover this. Give me a break. If I wasn't so mad about the ridiculousness of it, I would be embarrassed that I even tried it - but I am seriously just extremely disheartened that they think this is an adequate way to make up for their colossal mistake.

No point to this post other than a vent. Whine over. Back to focus on my currently growing bean!

@bellalou32 - that is what makes me mad. I feel like I got two completely different stories; the day it happened being told i was never liable for another dollar, to the new reality of only not having to pay until I got pregnant. My insurance will kick in for the u/s and b/w but I have a high deductible plan and shi* IF coverage, so I'm paying close to OOP

I feel like your situation was so extreme that they shouldn't be following any "protocol". I honestly would talk to one of the Dr's....but that's just me. Even if it was $5, that's not the point. Fight that shit.

@ducky719 - I have not consulted with a lawyer, however I am fairly certain I don't need to. Even with a "free cycle" I am fairly confident I have a case. Everyone I tell this story too gives me a shocked look of disgust back, yet they just seem to dismiss it like it's no big deal. It's frustrating. I mean, it's a $38 vial of Progesterone oil, you really couldn't pay for it? I figured they wouldn't but kind of wanted to test them.....

@JBDamonM‌ - not cool! To me it's just adding insult to injury. These doctors make a ton of money - it's despicable and they should just pay for it. Sorry this happened to you.

Oooohhhh it gets better. Freedom pharmacy just called and told me I have no refills left on my progesterone (which is not true according to the label is not true)..... And when I lost it on them and asked why this was being brought to my attention at 6:15......they told me they left two messages with my dr today and they didn't call back. Honestly.......middle finger.......so I paged the on call Dr, who actually told me she can't do anything about this. I've got some choice words for these people tomorrow and I'm sticking DH on them. And I know what there answer is going to be - to put me on crinone instead since I can get that local. Not happening. That stuff is expensive and nasty and I'm not touching it ....

Freedom pharmacy is who I have to go through for insurance - since ya know, they won't pay for it....and funny how they had time to return that call.

This! @JBDamonM, I would be so beyond pissed.....the error by their staff was beyond huge.....they should be kissing your a$$ and cover all expenses till you are released......which was in fact what the Dr's statement lead you to believe!

I'm with @ccam‌ you shouldnt pay a single cent ever again.

The on call doc sucks a big fat one. I'm anti-suing, but you whole situation makes me so sick.

Yes, they're lucky you aren't suing them. They should be bending over backward for you. And I'm not sure i'd even be using their practice anymore and giving them any more money (unless you have to use them for insurance reasons).

I must have not been around for when this happened to you, because this is the first time I'm reading this story-- but I am SO mad for you! RRRRRR I'm getting more mad as I'm typing this)!!!!

And I quote her "I can't do anything about that THE NURSES need to call that in." I"m sorry, is that beneath you? (I really wish I thought to say that)....... This was a Dr I have never met with, I am assuming she is a resident or fellow..... and I will be bringing this response up with whomever actually helps me today. Unacceptable.

My RE's office just moved, and they had some phone changes along the way - so there is a chance that the messages left by Freedom were left on a dead line, regardless the DR. should have sucked it up and called it in for me last night. Disgusted.

@Mrs.AmyDylan - I Am also anti suing, but my god - they do nothing to help their own cause.

@Millie1984 - they didn't use the word protocol, but they said "A free cycle ends once you get pregnant".... so clearly it's not the first time they have given a free cycle.

Unfortunately they are really the only practice in my area, at least the only reputable one.... And I actually do like my Dr. but I have some serious issues with the administration. I should have been treated like a freaking royal once there error happened and it's simply not been the case, at all.

That is just awful, I'm so sorry this happened to you.

I know its hard to find another practice after being with one for so long. And if you actually like your doctor, thats really the most important thing.

I hope the administration wakes up and does something nice for you. Did they release you to your OB yet or are you still working with them?

cluster is an understatement:

10:45 this morning - after still not hearing anything from my Dr - I called them and left a voicemail.

12:45 this afternoon - my nurse calls. She has no record of any of this and agrees that Freedom had 3 refills so there shouldn't be an issue in the first place. Her quote "I am truly embarassed that the on call Dr would not help you get this resolved last night".... (at least someone get it)....

3:15 this afternoon - after not hearing from Freedom I call them and they STILL have no record of anything from my dr. They however won't call them, they will only fax an authorization form.

I just called my RE back and lost it. "lucky" for me - it's just a voicemail, bc apparently getting anyone to actually help you is like moving mountains..... I am honestly rip shi*. All of this could have been avoided if they would have just paid the $38 on the initial script that they set up. But no, they couldn't do that. I THANKFULLY am off to meet a friend who has an extra vial of PIO. Thank god for small favors
