Cerclage

I'm 17 weeks and just had a Cerclage done. Has anyone else done this. What can be done for the pain? How long did you take off work?

Re: Cerclage

  • Sorry you have to go through this. I found this for you. it has someone's experience in there.

If you type cerclage in the search function, it will bring up plenty more discussions. That's probably the best way to get some real insight.

  • Hi, sorry you have to go through this. My doctors were discussing this for me, and both had different views on bedrest/time off work for after.

What did your doctor tell you to expect?

  • The Dr said he was prescribing codeine but then forgot to. I didn't want to call him about it. I was afraid I was being a wimp. He said nothing strenuous for a couple of days but I am supposed to work tomorrow. I am a veterinary nurse which means on my feet running around all day and a lot of lifting. I called the nurse today but got no returned call.

I don't have much knowledge on this but seems like a lot of ladies take some bed rest after cerclage. The fact that your job is quite physical, I'd have concerns starting so soon if you've only had a couple of days to rest. Call in sick of you don't get answers. .better to be cautious.

  • Please don't feel like a wimp for wanting pain meds! Pain control helps with the healing process. I would call your doctor in the morning and ask for a prescription to pick up at lunchtime/get the okay to work on your feet all day.
  • Well the nurse called today apologizing like crazy. Said their computer kept rejecting the Rx because I have had vomiting and migraine from morphine post op. She said she was calling it in by phone now. I said don't worry about it NOW. The worst is over and I called in sick today anyway. Geeze. Well the baby is all safe in there and the is what really matters anyway. Thanks for all the support.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I have no experience with this particular procedure, but I've been terrified that I would need the same done due to having a LEEP last year. Please get some rest and take care of yourself. Glad to hear the baby is safe, I wish you the best of luck!

  • Call the nurse... Get your medicine.. Stay off your feet. You are not a wimp !! That's what medicine is there for. :)
