Gender / heart rate relation

a friend of mine is sure she's having a boy because the heart rate was low, is this something that can be accurate? I wouldn't think so but she's already done a gender reveal at 13 weeks because she's so sure.

  • Oh boy. Heart rate fluctuates. I've had different heart rates at every appointment so far. I would reeeeally not count on it being a boy until the 20-week a/s scan if I was your friend. And even then, there is always the possibility of surprise upon delivery.
  • Yeah she definitely did, I was cracking up when I saw it. I mean, this is my first pregnancy and it was a surprise so I never really was interested in learning anything about it until now. So I didn't think it was possible but she has three kids and she didn't say we think or have a feeling. She did a complete gender reveal based on the heartrate
  • I should really go to bed, but I don't want to miss the fun gifs im sure are to come :)
  • Lol I can definitely do that!
  • I know if baby turns out to be a girl, I'll have a lot of people saying "I told you so" but whatever.

  • That is funny she did a gender reveal off of the heart rate. Although heart rate can't determine the sex, it does seem that boys have lower heart rates. Only reason I say that is because I was so freaked out that my baby's heart rate was in the 130's and 140's ( it was higher before 14 weeks), that I was always looking up if it was okay rate ( which of course the doctor said it was--but I freak out ha)..and there was so much topics about people talking about sex and heart rate---and it did seem on average that boys were on the lower side...weird. I guess I will find out if the old wives tale is right for my baby in a few days!

  • Girl right here... HR 140-146 every time. Now what you do with this information....
  • My cousin, who's a boy, had a heart rate in the 170s. I wouldn't rely on that. The heart rate of my little one was 170s the first few, and is now down to 150s. As they grow and get bigger, their heart rate slows.
  • This boy's heartrate has always been high.  At my last checkup at 17+2, his was at 165....

My first son's heartrate was always high too.

  • My DS heart rate was 160-170 the whole time I was pregnant with him. So it was wrong with him! This time it's been in the 150s. I don't know the sex yet but I would not go off of heart rate!
  • I don't know that I could be friends with someone that did an actual gender reveal based on an old wives tale. My DS had a "girl" heart rate. This baby so far has had a similar heart rate. Is it a girl or is it another boy with a "girl" heart rate??? My guess is heart rate means nothing.
