foot pain

Yesterday I walked kind of far in flats (PSA, wear supportive shoes like they tell you to) and when I was walking home all the sudden the outside of my right foot was extremely painful with every step.  I woke up this morning and can barely walk on it.  I've had plantar fasciitis before and I don't think it's that, maybe tendonitis?  I also realize that aching feet is super common in general and I've got an extra 20 pounds in a short time for my feet to carry so I should be more careful.  I don't think this counts as something I should be calling my midwife about because they're not foot doctors and it couldn't possibly be an emergency.  I know you all are not doctors, but does this sound familiar to anyone?

Re: foot pain

  • If the flats you had on did not have much support you may have bruised the bone.If it doesn't get better in a day or so I would go get it looked at by a ER. They might not want to preform a x-ray some doctors will some won't . Ice as much as you can next couple days an try an elevate your foot. Good luck

  • Put your feet up or have SO rub them. If you have a history of plantar fasciitis you might try rolling a tennis ball or a golf ball under your foot. It helps with the fascia, but can be uncomfortable.
  • PF suuuuucks.  I pronate like woah so that's been an issue.  I wore my good flats yesterday but not my inserts and my big toe feels like it's broken :/ or I have terrible arthritis.

I'd give them a rest and maybe try a frozen water bottle and roll it around like a ball from heel to toe while sitting, with a slight bit of pressure to both massage and ice your foot.

  • If it is tendonitis then ice will help with the swelling and pain. The tennis ball may also help, stop if it is painful. Try to stay off your feet as much as you can and if you don't see improvement you should get checked out by a Doctor. Personally I would just see my regular doc for this not the ER.

  • Thanks everyone for the tips.  Icing and the tennis ball helped a bit.  It sucks to have to sit around all day and my pt job is on my feet, so I may have to take off another day.  I've only lived in this area for about 2 years and have a PPO so I don't have a primary care or podiatrist that I can call up without an appointment.  Its really not an emergency so I'll just have to deal with it.  If it doesn't resolve in the next few days I'll try and make an appointment.
