  • Not too much new to report with baby boy this week. He is as active as ever and I am very thankful for the reassurance of his movement. Our next big appointment is next Monday. We will get an ultrasound and do my GD test. I can't wait to see his little face.

We lost my DH's Grandpa early this morning. He was 100 years old and a 3 time veteran. He was such a great person and I am so sad that baby boy did not get the chance to meet him. I am glad that he didn't suffer and died in his sleep.

    Suggestions for future topics:

    1) Where is the first place you want to take your new family? (This could also be who do you first want to introduce baby to?)
    2) What is the piece of baby gear you are most excited to buy (receive)? My MIL has asked me to set up a registry and since this is baby #2 I am struggling to think of anything we really want or need.
  • Thanks for doing such a great job with the check-in @Grailseeker14!!!

@keifekm - So sorry about your DH's Grandpa. :( None of our gparents are alive and it really bums me out that my kids will never meet that generation. ((hugs)) to your DH

AFM, we're cooking with gas right now, because I'm on break from school so I have lots of time. Nursery is coming together (meaning it has floors, painted walls, and will soon have trim), "natural" childbirth classes are under way, and shower planning is in full swing. Bc of that I'm trying to finalize the registry right now. So many difficult choices! I have also officially switched to the midwife practice (will deliver at a hospital) and I'm thrilled. It seems like the ideal middle ground to me. First planning session with the doula is tonight. Little Girl remains super active, which is wonderfully reassuring. :)

QOTW: As we near the end it seems like there are a ton of great topics for discussion. I would particularly be interested in:
-Ideas for a shower that isn't lame
    -Managing visitors post-delivery
-Best books and other resources for preparing for life with a newborn
    -Finding a pediatrician
    -Nursery pic sharing

  • @keifekm I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sad that my grandparents did not live long enough to meet this baby (though I lost my last grandparent over a decade ago and my husband only ever knew one of his).

I have no news this week, other than that I've been getting panicky again like I was in the first trimester. The baby was moving less than usual on Saturday and I was in full-out panic mode. I think I need to stop reading the late loss/early labor threads, though I like to offer support to the moms.

QOTW: I'd love to get details about what everyone is doing with their nurseries!

  • Hi, I'm new to TBC and to this group. I thought I'd introduce myself. I conceived through IVF (round 2) after 3 years of IF following a loss (medical termination due to anencephaly at 13w, after a natural conception). I am now 24+ weeks pregnant and due April 30 as per IVF dating, though the USG dating just jumped from April 27 to 2 May, which is freaking me out a bit. I think the theme of this pregnancy is caution and anxiety. Fx till 28 weeks when I think I may be able to relax again. IVF felt like an (emotional) breeze compared to pregnancy! Really glad to have this thread, and hope to meet you moms out there :)
  • First off, @Grailseeker14, thank you for all your dedication to this thread!  Thank you @taahira for stepping up next!

@keifekm - So sorry for your family's loss.

AFM, I've been dealing with a lot of BH contractions.  Last week, they were pretty consistent, and I called my OB and talked to the nurse.  She reassured me that what I was feeling wasn't outside of normalcy for a twin pregnancy, but to keep track of kicks and if I don't get 10 in 2 hours, to call.  Also, call if I have more than 4 BH in an hour.  Or have red blood.  Thankfully, none of those things have happened, but I feel like I'm "on alert".  She's said no sexual activity and try to rest as much as possible.  It all makes me stressed and irritable.  Fun for DH, eh?

Speaking of DH, he has another follow-up with his orthopedic surgeon on Monday.  FX that he is able to be weight bearing again.  It is SO tough that I'm the only one that can drive and get around.  He's been "cheating" a bit and hobbling a little around the house because he's feeling better, but still there isn't much activity, and thus the nursery is completely on hold, which is stressful for me, because 1. I'm a planner and 2. DH is a pack rat and has a lot of stuff that he needs to get out of the room that will become the nursery and is currently unable to do much.  So this makes me getting as much rest as possible difficult.  Don't forget, I'm also mom to a 3 year old VERY ACTIVE little boy.  Mommy isn't resting as much as she should.

My prediction is that at I may be put on modified rest after my OB appointment next Friday due to some of the contractions... I don't want this to happen, but I know it is a possibility.  All the more reason that DH needs to be released from weight bearing restriction, and is able to drive again!

QOTW: I like the idea of nursery progress/ideas, even talking names, maybe funny names that have been ELIMINATED by you that DH has recommended?  I have some doozies!  As a second time mom (delivered DS by c-section), I'm always happy to share my experience with delivery, breastfeeding (DS breastfed for 15 months), etc.  I also like to hear about baby moons (we won't be doing one), anyone planning to go through the process again... if I think of others, I'll post again :)

    Have a great week, ladies!

  • @Grailseeker14, thank you for running these check in's!!!!  Thank you @taahira for stepping up next!

@keifekm - I am so sorry for the loss of your DH's grandfather.
@yarnymommy - hopefully your DH gets good news at his upcoming appt and prayers that you won't be put on bed rest!

AFM:  We had an exciting, not in a good way, last appointment.  At our growth scan I mentioned that earlier in the week I had some abnormal bright red bleeding.  They decided last minute to check my cervix and found that it was funneling and about 10mm.  So they had me take the betamethasone shots Friday and Saturday.  We were just barely able to get the Rx for the progesterone suppositories filled that night from a specialty pharmacy that does compounding.  And then run to CVS to pick up the other Rx.
We went back in Monday and things look better, my length doubled back to 20mm, but still will funnel when pressure is applied.  At least it's getting better, I'm not on bed rest, but I have check ups weekly now and they will probably do one final round of betamethasone.

QOTW:  nurseries, first photo ideas, any birth announcement ideas, anyone who is doing day care what in particular have they looked at with respect to facilities

  • baby_blessings - It was one business day for test results in my town.  I tested on a Friday morning, and found out I failed Monday morning.

GrailSeeker14 - Thanks for running our check-in!  I look forward to this thread each week.

My week has centered on learning and adapting to my gestational diabetes.  I went to a 2 hour workshop Thursday.  I reverted back to school mode and took lots of notes and asked questions.  I think I really annoyed the other lady in the workshop (who looked put out for being there - I don't want it either!).  It was very informative (1 hr with nurse; 1 hr with dietician) and I understand better why the precautions.  I have to test my blood sugars 4x a day and call them in weekly.  I went over my target Saturday night after eating cake.  I have a theory on that which I'm going to experiment on eating my nephew's birthday cake this Saturday as well.  I guess that will let me know if I am off cake for the rest of the pregnancy or not. I've told my husband that I can do anything for the next 2.5-3 months, but I'm really looking forward to this summer when I can eat, drink, and do anything I want.  There sure has been a lot of restrictions on me this past year!

QOTW:  Only additional thing I can think of is the craziest dream during pregnancy.  I don't know about the rest of you, but I've been dreaming a lot more and more crazy than normal.  I've dreamt that all of my siblings and my husband's have gotten divorced.  I even dreamt that my husband handed off our baby girl to his girlfriend and said "here's mommy", to which I said "I'm her mom!"  Crazy stuff!!
  • Hi Ladies, I hope everyone is having a great week. Firstly i wanted to thank @Grailseeker14 for the great job of keeping our little group together, i just hope i can do the same bringing us to the end of our pregnancies, and hearing all of our birth experiences.

I had a busy start to my week, with the holiday's i hadn't had my regular check up with my OB. So Monday i had a growth scan, my GD test, and my prenatal with my OB. It was a long day in my doctor office. I was happy to get caught up with everything. Symptoms to report? Im having mild nausea again, combined with acid reflux and heartburn, food just hasn't been a pleasure recently, i just keep telling myself its not long now so i eat what i can, when i can and not stress to much about it. Other than that i am feeling good, and excited to be coming towards the end, to meet our little boy. Scans? I had a growth scan on Monday, and this little guy isn't so little, he is measuring 2 weeks ahead, he is currently 2lbs 15oz My OB was expecting a big baby based on my last baby, but was surprised he was close to 3lbs at 27 weeks. It had been so long since i had seen him on an ultrasound, it was great to see him kicking around in there. appointments? With all my appoinments completed on Monday, I'm not due back at the doctors till the first week of Feb, where they need to do another growth scan to see how much bigger he has got. Cute/sweet moment of the week? I found my husband in the nursery on the rocker reading through children's books we had bought for the nursery. It was very sweet, he looked very happy sitting there.

Im loving everyone ideas, i will diffiently write them down, and ask them in the coming weeks. Wishing everyone a great week!!

  • I had a lot of appointments this last week. I had my GD test, which I haven't heard back about, so I'm assuming it came back okay. I also had another growth scan since I'm high risk. At 27 weeks she was measuring 2 lbs 10 oz. I looked back at my pregnancy journal from last pregnancy and my twins were measuring 2 lbs 11 oz and 2 lb 8 oz. So she's right between them right now. I also got my rhogam shot.

QOTW: Nurseries are a great idea. Birth plans/experiences from previous births. names. When we get closer, it would be fun to see what is in our hospital bags.

  • I had a freak out last Friday. The baby has been so constantly active that when I woke up around 5 AM and didn't feel any movement at all for over 3 hours, I called my OB and went straight in. They put a fetal monitor on me very tightly while I was on my back, which cut off my blood supply and caused me to almost faint. The door was closed so I had to yell for a nurse bc I couldn't move. She immediately took off the monitor and told me the color of my face matched the table paper. Not a fun day. But thankfully everything looked fine with the baby. Although I think I am now officially on my OB's over-anxious patients list!

Had my 28 week appointment today (2 days early). They gave me the TDAP booster. And I told my OB I've still been having lots of BH contractions (they were so strong yesterday I had to lie down in a fetal position and put a hot water bottle on my back), but she completely dismissed me and told me not to worry so much. I think maybe because of my new anxious patient status? Anyway, I hope she's right and that I'm overreacting.

Normally I wouldn't worry about it so much, but we're leaving tomorrow for Central America for 10 days. One of my best friends is getting married, and we're taking the opportunity to extend our time there and make a babymoon out of it. I just hope I can relax a little bit, because right now I'm having nightmare visions of premature labor in a foreign country....
  • @GrailSeeker14‌ I'm still here, I tried the other board, but really couldn't work it out. I will start the check in next Tuesday, but I'm really unsure who is still here, and if many of our group will be checking in. It may take a while for the dust to settle.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I am still around too but I haven't been posting as much. I guess I am just waiting for the dust to settle and for things to cool down. I looked at the other board but don't have the time to start all over figuring it out.

@Haley612‌ so sorry for your scare but I am glad everything was ok. I have some days with major BH as well. It had me kind of freaked out this week because my husband is across the country for Grandpa's funeral. Yesterday and today have been much better though. I hope your trip goes well!
  • I'm still here, too. I'm also on the other board. I guess I'll see where I end up when the dust settles, but it's really you ladies that I'm most interested in staying in touch with!

  • @GrailSeeker14 - Thank you for doing such an awesome job with this check-in.
@taahira - Thank you for stepping up and volunteering to take over.
@pblge - While we're at it, thanks for starting this check-in in the first place.

I have decided that I am planning to stay here.  (Although, there are ominous rumblings about more "pain" to come - But, who really knows how to interpret that, or what to really believe anyway?)  I think a strong community will continue on the PAIF board, and its worth it to me for that alone.  I do also plan to pop over to PB a bit, because there are some ladies I am truly going to miss.

I am 25w1d today.  Things seem stable overall.  Last night, I had some more pink spotting, followed by a very small blood clot, but no signs of contractions, so, hopefully, that's the end of that.
Both babies heartbeats are consistently in the 130 - 150 range, and both babies have been moving a lot more over the past few days.  The girl is especially active - I've started calling her Esther Williams, b/c I'm just sure she's executing some well choreographed water ballet in there. My brave little boy is throwing some kicks and punches too, despite the fact that this morning's scan shows he's still low on fluid.
My next u/s is Sunday, and my MFM will be taking measurements.  I am really hoping the scan shows good growth in both LO's, as my MFM reminded me today that sustained low fluid levels could limit the boy's growth and development.

QOTW:  I like a lot of the GTKY's that have been thrown out there.  I won't be able to participate in a lot of them since I can't do nursery prep, or have a shower, or pack a bag since I'm already in the hospital, but I am totally ready to live vicariously through you ladies.  Feel free to post pics, if you're talking nursery projects, or if you want to beam about your showers.

(Speaking of hospital bags- I had no idea you were supposed to bring baby clothes with you to the hospital.  My latest roommate was showing me what she packed for the baby, and that's the first time it occurred to me that your baby shouldn't be naked when it leaves the hospital.  Not that I own a single stitch of baby clothes now anyway, but it made me realize a million new ways that I am unprepared).

@GrailSeeker14‌ Thank you for running the check in up to this point! Glad things are going well for you! Sorry about the shower drama. My mom and MIL cohosted my bridal shower and my mom didn't like it because she felt like she couldn't do what she wanted. So, my mom is hosting a shower for me this time and my MIL offered to "help" but never offered to host one. I'm just telling my MIL that she can call my mom if she wants to help! I'm sorry you're stuck in a tricky situation. Did the invites go out already? I don't think your mom should have to cohost if she doesn't want to though too. GL!

@keifekm‌ I'm sorry for the loss of your grandfather. I'm glad baby is active and doing well!

@KellyA724‌ I'm sorry you've been worrying a lot more lately. I think the threads about loss and complications do make it harder. I have to remind myself that there are hundreds of people on our board and that people who are having things go along normally are not posting separate threads all the time. I do like to offer support though too, so I know it's hard.

@smish82‌ Welcome and congrats! Being pregnant after infertility can cause a lot of anxiety so that is understandable. I hope you have found some ways to try to relax too!

@taahira‌ Glad you got all caught up on appointments and things are going well!

@Haley612‌ Sorry you had a scare! I'm glad baby looks good and everything was okay!

@AMShark‌ I'm glad your little ones are still doing well! I didn't know that low fluid could lead to less growth, I hope everything is okay with your little boy. GL at your appointment!

AFM, I'm still here. I think I'll stick around for awhile and just see how things go. I have been mostly lurking. I am sad to see some of the other ladies leave so I may try to keep up with the other board too.

I'm 25w6d today! My H keeps telling me how big I'm getting and part of me thinks it's cute but at the same time I do feel like I'm all belly! I'm feeling lots of movement and I love it every time! Except, last night he started kicking around when I was trying to sleep and it made it hard for me to fall asleep. My next appointment isn't for a couple weeks, so not too much to report.

My shower is next month and I got a dress for it that I love! It's a burgundy color and is really pretty. I'm looking forward to the shower. I also finally got around to getting a photographer for a maternity shoot so that should be fun!

QOTW: I like the topics suggested so far. I think others might be who are you having at birth, visitors at hospital and home, fun summer plans with baby, stuff about showers.

  • Hi ladies,
I am an old timer (according to my anniversary I have been a member here for 6 years, albeit inactive for a while)
We did so many rounds of IUI and tried to conceive our now for year old daughter for 4 years.... two early MC and one second tri loss. When she was 1 we started to try again (because I am old and we didn't have the luxury of time) We tried for two years and did numerous IUI again, lost twins at 12 weeks and an early (8 week) loss so we gave up. Over the summer I had a double knee surgery (I told you I was old.... 42) and got pregnant! We didn't hold much hope because, well I was on a bunch of meds post op and were bracing ourselves for another loss! BUT here I am, 28+ weeks, team green, blown away by this wee superstar!
I am on Lovenox twice a day now, I have a history of blood clots, my age, late pregnancy loss, placental tears early in pregnancy, a screwed up lower back fusion that did not fuse and is causing a bunch of other issues that I wont bore you all with!

Any way, It is nice to be here and I hope you all have a great week.
  • Hi ladies,

just wanted to pop in and say hello.   I hope you all are doing well!  apparently there was some drama that I missed.  Not surprising as I haven't spent as much time on the board lately for multiple reasons.

Having said that,  we had some excitement of our own yesterday and landed in the hospital with contractions.  We were not admitted after several hours of monitoring showed that the contractions stopped on their own without medication.  My cervix did not shorten significantly either,  and she was stable on the monitors.  I will take this as a lesson to slow down a bit from here on out.  15 weeks to go!

I am going to get some sleep, and then check back in to read through all of the posts.

  • OMG. It looks like Grailseeker14 is gone, which means that the text of the check ins, with everyone's names and due dates is also lost. I'll try to find her on the GBCB boards, but I don't think she's there at the moment. Seems like we lost quite a few members, so maybe it makes sense to start anew. :( I don't think all of the did a GBCB, so I'm wondering what's up. :-/

@Hpearl - YIKES! Glad you're okay and the baby is staying put! That must have been terrifying. ((hugs))

@struttonorf - Welcome! That's quite a tale you have to tell! Glad your LO is such a superstar. :)

@catlover790 - Pic of the dress, please! Perhaps with you in it? ;-) I have found no great maternity dresses. Bummer

@jlb902 - So glad the placenta moved! Celebration time!!

  • @pblge‌ I just noticed, everything in her pm she sent me has gone to. If you have no luck finding Grailseeker14, I'll start a roll call on Tuesday.
