Re: CD 3 Blood work question

  • I think there's a little bit of variation, at least from what I learned since I got mine back last week.

FSH (egg quantity indicator, from what I've read)

AMH* (my RE only tests if FSH is elevated, but reading tells me these together give a better picture of egg quantity and quality)

    Estradiol

    TSH

CBC and white blood cell differential

Plus things like blood type, varicella titer, and making sure there are no STDs.

Not sure if this is normal or not, but this was my experience!  Hoping for good results for you!

  • Oh dear, mine was in July so I barely remember....but I know they check FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) - you don't want this level to be too high because it *could* indicate low ovarian reserve)

LH (Lutenizing Hormone) - if this is greater than 2 or 3 to 1 of the FSH then it could indicate PCOS.

Prolactin - can't remember what this means!

I think there is one other thing they test for, but I don't remember!

  • And duh, you're asking what these tests will tell you, right?  I've really only read up on FSH/AMH since my testing, since my FSH was outside the norm.  Apparently, there's an expected CD3 level of this hormone that indicates egg quantity.  Women who've been through menopause have a much higher level here, so when it's elevated, it may indicate that you're dealing with diminished ovarian reserve.

I won't meet with my RE for another freaking month, since the AMH takes a while to get back, though, so I'm uneducated on it all.

  • Pretty much what @mushE‌ said.

My FSH result was 9.7. The range is 1-10, so i was almost over. My RE said that was high, but not out of normal range and not to worry unless my AMH came back low. Well, my AMH came back way to low, so it became much more of a problem. I only know the ranges and results of those tests because they were problematic. I think the initial blood work also covers a thyroid check.

I'm just starting an IVF cycle and DH and i both need another blood draw for an infectious disease test. They must not have tested me initially for that. Hope that helps! GL!
  • Okay Thank you ladies. Do you get results back quickly?

I had the infectious disease stuff checked and so did DH at our first appointment so I know it wouldn't be that stuff.

  • I got mine within a day, to my online patient portal, but our insurance is really high-tech.  I almost wish I didn't know any of it until I was meeting with the RE, but it is what it is!  Not sure how long it would take if you don't have that kind of portal, but I wouldn't expect it to be long.

  • Thanks ladies. I got a call from RE after I posted and asked the questions about CD 3 blood work after I got Hs SA results. She explained everything to me FSH and AMH and that she should get back to me Monday with them.
