High-Risk Pregnancy

Placenta Abruption, 17 weeks, losing hope. (Into)

Hi ladies, I think it's officially time I do an intro here.

I'm 17 weeks with mo/di twins. I've been bleeding throughout the pregnancy, usually large amounts all at once, and then back to spotting. It was 8 weeks, 12 weeks, and then 14 weeks. Since the 14 week bleed, it has not stopped. I've been in and out of the ER and am now being seen at L&D, through the magic of my MFM.

Last night, I had a pop, and then a gush of blood, soaked through a pad, and my pants were soaked to my knees. I went to the restroom and passed a clot the size of a grapefruit. It was completely terrifying. We rushed to L&D and called my MFM on the way. She took me up to the high risk floor, and used their ultrasound machine, where she was finally able to pinpoint the bleed. I have a placenta abruption, that is pooling quite a bit of blood. There is blood leaking into the babies sacs, and several small pools of blood floating around in my uterus. I've been having pain on the left side (similar to O pains), and that is exactly where the tear is. She is confident the pain is related to the abruption.

My cervix was at 4cm on Friday, and was at 2.6 last night. We discussed a ceclarge, but she doesn't think it will help at this point, but we are going to talk about it again on Thursday. If I make it another 4 weeks, I'll be admitted and we will start steroids and another drug, (mag??) to help the babies out, and then hopefully will be able to wait until 26 weeks or later. For now, I'm on strict bed rest, only up to use the bathroom and shower.

I am really looking for any other experience with this, I've found several losses related to abruptions, but very few success stories. I'm worried about the blood in the babies sacs, I'm worried about hemorrhaging, and I'm worried that if we do make it to viability, they still might not make it.

Thanks for reading.

  • I'm sorry I don't have any experience with your situation. I did want to say I'm so sorry you and your little ones are going through this and I pray they stay put a little longer.

You may want to check out the premie or micro premie board. The ladies there may have had similar situations. Good luck to you.

  • I don't have anything to share specific to your situation but I'm so sorry you're going through this. Try to relax and try not to stress of you can. Keeping calm and keeping your blood pressure down can only help at this point.

You and your babies are in my thoughts and prayers
