Dream feed?

anyone else still dream feeding?!? My LO has never slept through the night. We are guaranteed 2-6 wake ups!

He is asleep no later than 7:30 but I'm just not ready to sleep that early so I started dream feeding him right before I'm ready for bed (like just now) did this yest and the day before and he didn't wake up till almost 2 am which is amazing for his household.

Just curious if anyone else is too :) ??

Re: Dream feed?

  • I haven't tried it but have thought about it. My DS typically only wakes up once between 3-5. I wondered if it maybe would push him to 530 or 6 when I get up. I was going to try it tonight but decided to wait because wine.

My daughter wakes up regardless. She's up like a friggen alarm clock. Bedtime is 6:30. She's up at 10, 12, 2, 4, 6 and if she's up again at 7, I drag her into bed with us to get another hour or so. It sucks. She slept better as a newborn. She was getting 4-5 hours at 6 weeks. She's been doing this 2-3 hour crap for 2 months. ETA when she wakes up, she eats. Like she's missed a meal or two.

  • It doesn't disturb his sleep at all (so far) he stays super knocked out and just goes right back to sleep... We were getting at 11 pm wake up haven't these past 2 days. He sleeps till almost 2 am and then 5 am and up at 7 ish... Mind you it's only been 2 days l
  • My LO was waking up just as much as yours and it was miserable! I also would bring him to bed, literally just got better! He went from 6 wake ups to like 4 then 3 and now 2... It's so exhausting!!!!
  • I was seriously about to ask if people are successful with doing this. I might have to try it. Do you literally pick them up and latch them on? Will they nurse well or do you have to kind of wake them up? I'm afraid of waking him up and having him start crying then be hard to put back down.
  • I tried this the other night when I got home to empty my breasts and boy was I surprised! I for sure thought my LO would wake up crying and not go back to sleep well but it couldn't have gone better! Let me just say that it was so weird to pick her up in her crib sound asleep at 10:45 PM! I was like what am I getting myself into! She stirred a little (no crying) and she latched on right away and started suckling! I did both breasts (nursed for 15 mins) and put her back into her crib. She stirred for like 1 minute and then was out until 7:30 AM!!

The dream feed has been our best friend for the past 2 months or so. He goes down at 7 we go in around 11 and feed him while he's asleep in his crib and then he typically doesnt wake until 630 or 7. We prob won't stop for awhile...not even sure if it's still necessary or not.

  • We dream feed when I go to bed but it's really just so I won't have to get up again an hour or two after going to sleep. DS still gets up every 3-4 hours and eats well so I have no intention of trying to cut down yet. It was tricky at the beginning because DS wouldn't wake up enough to eat so I learned a trick: I keep an eye on the monitor and when DS gets restless I run in and nurse him when he's in a lighter sleep. He usually goes to bed at around 7:30 and eats at 10:30, 2:30 and 6:30.
  • I do it all the time. It works like a charm! Rarely at night, but I did it a lot during the holidays. Especially when he's already asleep and I need to load him up in the car seat.

This is us as well, but her bed time is closer to 7:30, so that fist stretch is not as long, and I get up for work at 7 (used to be earlier, but now I am too tired to get up before 7).
She nurses like she has not eaten for a day.
