Baby detergent?

I'm tackling the small stuff first, apparently. So, do I really need to wash the baby's laundry in a different detergent than the one I use? I already use Method Free & Clear, which is clean, green, and unscented. I also can't stand how fabric softener smells (like petroleum, ugh) so I don't use any. Our clothes come out clean and smelling like glorious nothing. Do I still need a separate baby detergent?

    We just used Tide Free and Clear from the beginning. I couldn't stand the heavily perfumy smell of Dreft. My vote is no.


    (I also dislike fabric softener/dryer sheets)

    We use Purex free and clear and free and clear dryer sheets for DS's clothes because he has REALLY sensitive skin.  We started that when he was a baby...I don't think I ever bought any Dreft.

    I was told the free & clear is absolutely fine, which is great since I won't need to buy more detergent!  Dreft is NOT cheap!

    You should be fine. We also use Tide Free and Clear for DS's stuff as a PP mentioned.

    Another vote for "Free and Clear" is fine - I think you're just supposed to not use scented detergent because it can irritate sensitive skin.

    Should be fine. I can't stand not having any fragrance bc I feel like the clothes don't smell clean. We use All Fresh and Sensitive.

    We just use a free and clear or some homemade soap on everyone's clothes.

    I use Charlie Soap, it's phenomenal. I use white vinegar in place of fabric softener. The clothes don't smell like vinegar, that washes away and everything is super soft. I use unscented dryer sheets in the winter for static.

    ETA: We don't have kids yet, but my bestie turned me on to it. It has no chemicals, fragrances or dyes. It's even safe to wash my fancy schmancy bras with.

    We started with some of the special detergents (I think we used All). After sometimes mixing clothes with ours we noticed no reactions so we eventually just used whatever we typically buy. We will do the same this time around. As long as no reactions, we will switch to the same.

    How do you use the vinegar? Like when or where do you put it in? Very interested since I am allergic to fabric softener...

    Most free and clears are good unless you decide to cloth diaper then detergent options get slightly more limited.
    Life is a balance of holding on and letting go.

    I use the All free & clear, no fabric softener, and I also don't use dryer sheets when I do my son's laundry (yes, everyone in our family does their laundry separately).  You should be fine with what you use.

    @tinybugsmom I put it in the middle of my agitator (the washer came with the house, so it's on the older side) where I would put fabric softener if I used it. I would put it in whatever receptacle your washer has for fabric softener, I know my in-laws agitator-less top loader had a little cup thingy you put the various washing powders and liquids in. I didn't try the vinegar on their machine since it wasn't mine and I felt funny about it. I don't use regular fabric softener, either. 

    My BFF has been using vinegar in the wash for years, both in her older washer and newer ones.  She's never had any issues with her machines.
