2nd Trimester

Welcome to 26 weeks, here's some incontinence!

Are any of you ladies starting to have this problem? I certainly hope it's just from extra pressure on my bladder. I have had a bad cough with a virus the last few days though and I'm wondering if that isn't contributing to the problem. I haven't had an issue until today, but now it seem like a tiny faucet has been opened and I turned 26 weeks today. Pads help somewhat. Comments? Suggestions?

Re: Welcome to 26 weeks, here's some incontinence!

  • Incontinence is normal during pregnancy.  It will get worse as the baby gets larger and puts more weight/pressure on your bladder.  Coughing, sneezing, laughing can all contribute.

Wear panty liners, change your underwear frequently, do kegels.

  • Very common. I ended up developing it in the last month thanks to a nasty bout of bronchitis (all that coughing and sneezing haha). I LOVE Poise panty liners, they're comfy and absorb urine better than regular liners since it's a different method of development. Other than that, just try to work on managing your cough and virus since that will wear you out long before the incontinence does, and then just try to do kegels and hope that you'll be able to bounce back after the pregnancy (not all of us do and it's good to be prepared for that).
  • It only gets better after baby is born and with subsequent pregnancies ;) the joys of pregnancy nobody tells you!

  • I'm 25 weeks and had a bad cough around 23-24 weeks and noticed some leaky moments while coughing particularly violently.  Thankfully, the cough is gone now and so far nothing else is causing it.  It's not like I just randomly start peeing (so far!)
