Spotting

Did any of you experience brown spotting in early first tri? I have very light spotting today. I feel like it's happening when I pick up my 1yr old. With my history of loss I can't help feeling a sense of dread. I'm not having cramps though. I really hope this isn't the beginning of the end.

I did. Just light spitting, and then a gush of bright red that filled a few pads and sent me in to a complete panic. My on ordered a sono and turned put I had a SH. was put on pelvic rest and had sonos every couple weeks to track. By my 2nd sono it was bigger. At each one after that it kept shrinking until by 16 weeks it was gone.

I know spotting can be worrisome. And while not normal, it is very very common. And not necessarily indicative of a serious problem. Can be as simple as a sensitive cervix. Have you called your ob? That's what I would do first thing in the morning if you haven't already.

  • It's light and it's brown not red. I have been trying to take it easy since it isn't red and there's no cramping, but that's hard to do with a toddler. If it continues or gets worse tomorrow I'm going to call and see if they want me to come in. My next ultrasound is Tuesday. I hope it just stops. I haven't noticed anything new in the past couple of hours.

  • I did too - very little but bright red. Ultrasounds shows a place low in my uterus where some blood may have been pooling; the tech said this was totally normal as you're starting to produce more blood. She couldn't see anything else and sent me home. It was a relief to have it checked out.
  • I had bright red spotting and then brown spotting. I think it was around 8 weeks. Scared me! The brown spotting is old blood. When I called my Dr.s office the nurse asked what I had done today. Well that day I had been running errands all day. I also went grocery shopping for my family and my mother. Which then meant carrying a lot of groceries in to her house and mine. I am pretty sure that is what did it. I had the bright red for the first day and then brown for a couple days after.

  • I have had spotting/bleeding in many of my pregnancies.  Sometimes it was just one incidence and sometimes it happened multiple times during the pregnancy.  The latest I had any was at 15 weeks.  All those times it was a subchorionic hematoma causing it.  I had bleeding and spotting lots of times with this pregnancy.  This dr I have currently won't see you until you are after 12 weeks along so I assume it was a S.H. again.  Even after I saw her the first time she did no ultrasound or anything.  The bleeding would range in color during various pregnancies and occurances from red to dark brown to pinkish to thin watery brown to more of a tan color mucous type thing.

Once the hematomas resolved my pregnancies were fine with no complications at all.  I carried beyond full term every time and had big big healthy babies.
  • My doc said if it's brown and light and unaccompanied by severe abdominal pain, it's fine... I had something similar. Try to relax, even if your other LO is running rampant.
