February 2015 Moms

44 years old scared of stillbirth

my midwife has put a bit of fear in me. I'm 44 and due feb 6. She wants to induce week 39 or 40 because statistically there are more stillbirths for "older" moms if they go over due date.
I'm finding it difficult to not think about it all the time.
Any pointers on how to stop fretting?
Anyone else have similar situation?
I'm new, sorry if this has been discussed already

Re: 44 years old scared of stillbirth

  • I just googled and apparently there is truth to what she is saying. I know that doesn't help. Did she mention additional monitoring or testing for you?

I'm not in the same boat but you have my t and P's. I often find myself worrying about the possibility of something going wrong and honestly I don't know how to turn it off.

My only advice would be to listen to your body and go in or call if anything feels off. Also maybe call your midwife for more information, she may be able to put your mind at ease. I'm sorry I'm not much help

  • Is there really anything we can say or you can do to take away your stress and worry completely? No. I really don't think so.

We all have some risk of things like that happening. SO MANY things can go wrong during pregnancy and delivery. Thing is- worry and stress doesn't change that possibility, it just makes you miserable. You just have to make peace that some things really are completely out of your control. Do what u can.... Call your dr if something seems wrong, go in for the early delivery, etc. Other than that though, you just got to wake up everyday and hope for the best and put it out of your mind.

    Peace. Be. Still.

I hope everything goes well and your healthy baby is in your arms soon.

  • I start having weekly ultrasounds tomorrow because of gestational diabetes. I guess there is an increased risk of still birth there too. I was very upset at first, but honestly...what can I do??? I just have to have faith and trust in this process. I am also 39 years old, so I am up there in age too
