Napping nightmare

My 20 week-old dd used to fight naps as a newborn but then I cracked it. Up until a few weeks ago, she'd nap late morning and late afternoon (as well as whenever in pram or car seat). The pram and car still work but I'm now battling to get her to nap at home. She's clearly tired, rubbing eyes and even closing them when in crib but really fights me. I try a dummy, Dream sheep (usual cue) and rocking but this rarely works.

Is anyone else finding this?

Re: Napping nightmare

  • I should add she sleeps well at night - no more than 2 wake ups to bf

  • Yep, everything @weeklyplanner‌ said. My DD has fought naps since she was about 2 weeks old and will only cat nap in the crib still.
  • My child won't nap in his crib, but he is doing well sleeping in there. He naps on the couch next to us right now. That is the only place he will sleep during the day.

  • Yeah I guess I have to be thankful she isn't fighting it at night
  • Same as above, DS is a terrible napper but a great night time sleeper.  I put bath towels over the windows in his room to black out the light and it helped me get him down for cat naps.  For naps I also ALWAYS sing "Hush Little Baby" while feeding him his bottle and rocking.  It gives him a cue that it is sleep time.

Yes, I think more darkness would help

  • I have a similar napper to @weeklyplanner. I have just accepted that there's nothing I can do right now. He sleeps almost all night so I know he has the ability to sleep longer than 1 cycle just not during the day yet. When he wakes I let him babble until he starts to sound mad. He almost never goes back to sleep after one cycle.

  • Same as posters above. He naps on me right now but we are going to try some nap training next week. I read around 5.5 - 6 months they learn to put together more than one day time sleep cycle. Here's hoping!! Good luck!
