Pregnant after a Loss

Staying positive (aka sane) in 1st tri

How the hell do I know things are going alright in there?!?! 2 weeks until my NT scan (I'll be 13 weeks) and I'm about to go freaking insane!

Anyone have some advice?

  • I'm very pro-doppler--that's how I stayed sane! The good news is that you're almost through, the bad news is that for many women the days before the NT scan were the most stressful. The mantras are great, so is checking this website:
    https://spacefem.com/pregnant/mc.php?m=07&d=11&y=14
Deep breaths, positive thinking, staying distracted--whatever works for you!

@hmr110913 - The NT scan = the Nuchal Translucency Screen, otherwise known as the first trimester screen for abnormalities. It combines blood tests with a detailed u/s to determine risks of Down's and other defects. Here's the first link that comes up on Google:

  • I actually got my doppler on Friday and have tried it but haven't found the hb. But being the extra fluffy girl I am not really surprised. And am trying not to stress about it because I know that the baby is so small and I have a big area to search.
I really am trying to take it day by day, I know that is the best thing to do but I'm still freaking out about every pain and checking the TP when I use the bathroom. Yesterday was the week/day for my 1st loss (and the one I made it the farthest with besides DS), so I don't think that is helping any.

    Thanks for your help ladies!

In addition to what PPs have said, I would take some comfort in the fact that you've passed all your loss milestones. Of course we all know there is no 100% "safe zone," but you should feel good about that. ((Hugs))

  • ((((HUGS)))) I am in the same boat as you.  However, I'll be almost 9wks by the time I go to my 1st appt.  We can do this...I have found distracting myself helps a lot!!! I started a new hobby....I have been pintresting organization/ultimate storage for small rooms/areas.  I just haven't started any of them yet.  LOL
  • Like PP's have said, my doppler was a life saver for me. Even before that the mantras helped big time as well as telling myself to enjoy my pregnancy and love this LO because I can't predict whether this will be my take home baby or not. If it's not I dot want to feel like I clouded the days I had with them with doubt and negativity and instead loved every minute I had with this little life. I don't know if that makes sense or not, but that's what I told myself every day I had Pgal brain attack.

My scan is also in two weeks and I am due 8/3/15, looks like we are in the same boat! I try to keep busy and think of other things but by far the at home doppler has helped me the most. Being an extra fluffy girl myself, thought I would share a few tricks that worked for me. Some days I found the baby, and other days I did not. 1. Try first thing in the morning when bloat is as little as possible. (It better be after those 8 trips to pee in the night) 2. Avoid checking after eating. (All those digestive noises get in the way) 3. I saw somewhere that the baby is still 'tucked' away behind the pubic bone, so for the longest I spent all my time angling the probe downward. Later I found the heartbeat by positioning the probe just above the pubic bone angled straight down. These were just my personal experiences, hope they help. Don't give up, take your time and it will work out. Take care and fingers crossed for an uneventful 7 months. ((Hugs)) *So sorry stupid Ipad won't save my paragraphs. Looks like one big run on sentence. (Also may be user error)
