Breastfeeding

Intro & Q: Fave boob?

Hellllloooooooo..... I am thrilled to be able to say I am now a breastfeeding Mama! I have been a reg on 3T, PAIF, and Jan15. My little guy was born on Saturday, and he is a hungry little hippo!

Early breastfeeding went great - the LC at the hospital helped me establish a good latch, he ate all the time and barely lost any weight from birth, with tons of poopy and wet diapers.

My milk came in Monday night with a vengeance. Engorgement is rough (I look like Ice T's wife Coco) but I can handle it.

Trouble is, all of a sudden LO is refusing my right boob. In the last day, he has continued a prolonged greedy latch on the left but only a few fussy sips on the right. Normal? Suggestions or tips?

Thanks and looking forward to learning a lot from you BTDT mamas!

  • Totally normal. What helped me was offering the less preferred side first at each feeding. Eventually my kids settled in.

This exactly.  BF, especially in the beginning, is all about challenges and problem solving.  Congrats and Good luck!
  • I am now thinking it's an engorgement issue - I hand expressed first and he latched a lot easier. What a learning curve!!!

Thanks  I was afraid for a minute I was doomed to be perpetually and drastically lopsided!
