Ok so this is probably a self explanatory question but when they say the 4 day rule, do they mean you try it and wait 4 days after the first time try the food? Or try the same food for 4 days in a row?
So when can u start giving food off your plate? My son is 7 months and I'm so afraid to give anything other than baby food, (first time mom here) And it's OK to give food with spices and things like that? I feel like I need to give him more new foods but we often jus have meat and veggies or some type of casserole! Is it OK to give meat?
I've been doing baby led weaning as well. I just give LO whatever we're having. So he's had potroast, chicken chili (I fed that one to him!), macaroni and cheese, pulled pork, and broccoli. He loves it!
I'm all over the place on food. I breastfed until about 3 months old, had to switch to formula, but DD was drinking SO much formula the pedes recommended starting solids at 4 mos (i think they usually say 6 mos now, but hell some parents do it at 2 weeks depending on who you ask). We started adding rice cereal and by 5 months she was on Gerber purees. at 6 months she started "stage 2" purees, and at 6.5 mos we started letting her taste tiny pieces of actual adult food. I also gave her actual banana slices straight to her mouth *and* in the mesh food eating things. At 7 mos, a couple weeks back I started making my own home made baby food which she loves.
She's 7.5 mos. now and today she started juice (cut with water) in a sippee cup. She will eat small pieces of real food, purees, homemade, and knows how to suck the food in those little "snack pack" things.
But I didn't realize when you start solids that sometimes they recommend it a couple meals on and off, and I just started feeding her purees AND formula every. single. meal. at like 5 mos when the Pede told me at her 6 mos check-up I could have done some meals just a bottle, and some adding the food, so maybe I fed her too much, but she loves to eat and doesn't puke or anything
I've given my daughter butternut squash with nutmeg and sage and she definitely was not bothered by the spices. I've also done apples with cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. I tried meatballs, but forgot that I had made them with spicy Italian sausage and she was not a fan of the heat. She loves meat, though. I've done tiny diced up pieces of chicken, ham, and last night we had Philly cheesesteaks, so I just took a spoonful of the steak, onion, cheese mixture and chopped it up for a few pulses with an immersion blender. She LOVED it. If any fell off the spoon, she would quickly grab it off the high chair tray and shove it in her face. I've also given her tilapia and cod and she liked both of those as well.
I think, as long as the pieces are soft and small enough, meat should be fine.
