Terrible migraines...

I'm 35 weeks and around week 33 started getting terrible migraines. I'm throwing up and I just can't function. My doc prescribed Fioricet but it's not touching the pain. Any mamas have suggestions on how to help the pain? I'm almost there...but this is wretched. My BP is normal.

Re: Terrible migraines...

  • I would call you Dr. and tell them it's not working.

  • I agree with PPs about calling your doc.
When possible, I find that a cool washcloth on my forehead in a cool, dark, place and as little movement as possible at least calms my symptoms until it passes. Also, as crummy as it is, I don't fight vomiting. It always seems to get better after. Stay hydrated!
    Hope you feel better soon!

  • I've used essential oils during my whole pregnancy. Peppermint is good to use, but I would suggest not using it often closer to your due date. It could decrease your milk. Lavender, frankincense, and roman chamomile could be helpful with migranes. Rub on the temples and relax. Reapplying helps as well.
  • Does the Fioricet that you were prescribed have caffeine?  There is one with and one without.  I was first prescribed the one without and it did nothing.  My doc switched me and it worked wonders.  There is not a crazy amount in it.  More like the equivalent of 8 oz of coffee with is acceptable during pregnancy.  I would def call the doc and let them know that what they have you on is not working though.

I agree! Caffeine (in small doses) can be key. I also agree with PP that you should call your dr about  this.
  • Ugh. That sucks. I'm sorry that the meds don't work. They work for me. When mine are really bad, I use a heating pad on the back of my neck. Sorry!

  • I've have been having severe migraines also. Today my OB gave me a script for percocet but I'm scared to fill it. He said it's safe as long as I don't take it often. I'm still not sure if I'm going to fill it.
  • Hi ladies! Thanks for all the suggestions...turns out I was going into labor! Started Sunday but after 2 days petered out so we're back home. I'm at 4 cm and she's cooking a bit longer. Hopefully the headaches stay away as I'm well hydrated!
  • I've had migraines now and then throughout my pregnancy and I've found that turning down all the lights or closing the curtains so I'm in a cool dark room with my feet up sipping a pint or more of cold milk worked magic! It worked with every migraine and worked quickly, it was an absolute lifesaver. Good luck with everything, you're nearly there!!
