Pull-ups?

We haven't formally started potty training yet, but I did pick up a potty seat and DD wants to sit on it every time she sees it (though she has not actually gone while on it). I want to just let her while she's interested, but it's such a pain to take the diaper off and put it back on, and she wants to get on and off, on and off, etc. I picked up a small pack of Target's pull-up style diapers thinking this might make it easier, but they don't seem like they would be absorbent enough to actually use in place of diapers at this point.

Anybody use a pull-up style diaper? Are some better than others? Does it make potty training easier?

Re: Pull-ups?

  • We are skipping the actual pull up diaper and I'm buying potty training underwear. Its a bit thicker then normal underwear so when they have an accident it absorbs a little. I hear the issue with pull-ups is that they work just like diapers and absorb away all the wetness, in potty training the key is to make the kiddos know they peed/pooped, let them feel it, and hopefully they won't like it so they use the potty.

Disclaimer, we haven't started yet. J isn't quite ready yet but this is what I've gathered from our d/c and from several friends who have older kiddos.

I doubt we'll go the pull up route. My d/c lady has voiced she really doesn't like them, how it's difficult to change a pull up if they have pooped, so she likes to stick with diapers. And once he gets into serious potty training mode, she'll just put the thicker underwear on him and they'll go to the potty like every 15 minutes all day except she'll put a diaper on for naps. (She's potty trained like 80 some kids...so I'm taking advice from her!).

  • We use Huggies lil movers diapers, but pull on version. They are not their actual pull ups, just the pull on version of that style diaper. They have worked great for DD. You can pull them apart like an actual diaper for poop and roll and seal it like a real diaper too. They have been just as absorbent as the normal diaper.
