WWYD? Do I need to pump later tonight?

I think I know the answer to this, but wanted to see what others would do in my situation.  DD (6 months) is EBF and we started introducing solids 2 weeks ago.  I work FT, but am able to go to her during the day to nurse so she only needs one bottle while at DC.  She gets solids 3 times in the day now as well.  I was pumping just over 5 ozs for that bottle, but the last few days have been seeing closer to 4 ozs.  To make up the difference, I've been pumping again a couple hours after she goes to bed.  Do you think that's really necessary?  Now that she's getting solids, and because she nurses for all of her other feedings, do I need to be worrying about the dip I'm seeing for the 1 bottle?  I am working on drinking more water and other ways to up my output, but just want to decide if I really need to be focusing on that extra ounce.  I'd really like to not *have* to pump at night to make up the difference if I can help it and just pump to add to my freezer stash.  TIA!

  • When I hit 6 months, I changed my goal and really wanted to see if I could make it to a year.  Because of that, I would pump to make up the extra ounces simply so I could maintain my supply.  Now that LO is about 10 months, my supply has naturally dropped and I've read that that is pretty common.  You could always add the pump back in later but it may be harder to get your supply back up by then.

  • Well I didn't pump last night. Other stuff happened that got in the way, but it looks like the consensus is I should try to make up that deficit if it becomes the norm, so I'll work on it. Hopefully I can fit a short extra session in at work rather than at night.
