Success after IF

New here. not pregnant. hoping for success stories on clomid

Hey everyone. I apologize if I'm not on the right board for this, I'm new and not 100% sure how everything works here. We have been trying to conceive for over a year now with no luck, and today I started my first round of 50mg clomid. I'm wondering of anyone has some success stories to share with me? I'm feeling pretty anxious about the whole thing, and really hoping this works because I can't take much more of this. Thanks everyone!

Re: New here. not pregnant. hoping for success stories on clomid

  • I'm sorry you are having troubles getting pregnant. The most appropriate board for you would be Infertility. This is Success after Infertility and everyone here has brought a baby home. You are welcome to ask questions here though :)

    Clomid never worked for me.

Are you working with a Reproductive Endocrinologist? Clomid is a tricky drug and should not be used without proper monitoring and pre treatment testing. There is also a lifetime limit on how many times you can take it. Clomid can cause side effects that can actually make it more difficult to get pregnant, depending on your diagnosis. If you know all this already, great! If not, and you are working with an OB who has not done an SHG, HSG, SA, and bloodwork for you and your partner, I urge you to find an RE immediately.

    Best of luck to you!

  • Everything @kmc84‌ said! The trouble trying to conceive and infertility boards are a great source of support! I have the unfortunate side effect of a thin lining on Clomid (thank goodness for monitoring appointments, or I would have never known it was causing that side effect!). So, it was not a good option in my case. My sister, however, was successful with her second cycle.

    Best of luck to you!

  • I did also post on the trouble ttc conceive board, but thay didn't seem like an appropriate place to ask for success stories. I was hoping someone here had some luck with. I've gotten a lot of great advice from everyone about seeing an RE and I'm looking in to doing that very soon. We have bad my husband tested and I had an hsg done and so far so good. Thanks to everyone for the advice! :)

If your OB is not doing ultrasounds frequently while puting you on Clomid, please consider canceling your cycle. There are some life threatening complications, that while rare, do happen. There is also the risk of HOM. An OB's specialty is not to get you pregnant; that is what an RE is for. You stated above that you weren't sure how much more you could take. I would not be wasting time with OB at all.

Has your OB given you any answers as to what the problem might be from your testing?

I'm not trying to be dramatic, just honest with you. I really do wish you luck!

First of all, I am so sorry you are struggling.

Just to echo and add to what kmc84 said - I hope your OB has been doing the proper monitoring while you've been using clomid.  Do you have a DX?  Have you had an HSG/SA?  For an example as to why I ask: an HSG can ensure you do not have any blockages in your tubes.  If there was a blockage, the clomid would be doing nothing (because your eggs wouldn't be getting through).  And as was already mentioned, clomid is a serious drug with a lifetime max, so you don't want to be taking it unless you are sure it fits with a DX you've gotten after all the appropriate tests.

I am also not telling this to scare you or be dramatic.  I am telling you because unfortunately there are OBs out there that know that infertility is a good money-maker, and they try to prescribe fertility medication (like clomid) improperly.  A reproductive endocrinologist specializes in reproduction (and only reproduction)

Bottom line, my advice: do not take anymore Clomid until you have seen an RE

    Good luck to you!

Yes millie 1984 I have had an hsg and it came back normal. My husband has been testes as well and he's all good :) they can't find anything else wrong so we moved on to this. I'm taking the advice and getting an RE. I really appreciate all the advice.
