second birthday parties!

Ladies! Is anyone still there?? Haha!

Well, since I'm expecting #2 this coming summer, I'm trying to plan everything else that I possibly can.
So! Has anyone else started planning LOs second birthday yet? DD has def started showing preferences to certain characters/books/activities, so I feel comfortable picking themes or colors. My biggest delima right now is if I should rent an indoor play place (full of bounce houses, floor trampolines, foam outs, etc) since last year was SO HOT. Or, hope everyone fits in my house this time (smaller party, etc, etc). Wwyd?

Re: second birthday parties!

  • I just randomly came to this page after so so many months. I remember you! Congratulations!! I think smaller party might be easiest, with a baby on the way...however renting a place and not having to deal with the mess at home would also be good while pregnant! We are going to start TTC soon.  I wanted to wait a few months to avoid another summer baby but I just cannot wait I am so excited. Congrats again!!

  • I haven't done any hardcore planning but we do have a theme which is inspired by the venue - a barn. I am waiting until next year to book the venue. With two, I suggest to keep it very simple. Good luck!
  • We have not started planning or anything but with a baby on the way, I would recommend going as simple as possible. Rent out a place where they do all the work for you. I've done many parties at my house, and I know how much work it is, getting your house ready, setting up, cleaning up, etc.
We tried to host a Hanukkah party when my LO was 3 mos & my older was 3, it was a nightmare! The baby didn't want to be passed around, and didn't like all the chaos, so I spent most of the party dealing with the baby, and then I got to spend the evening cleaning up afterwards. Go with a venue!

  • No concrete plans yet, but I think the theme will be Elmo related. She LOVES him right now. I may have a secret Pinterest board dedicated to her birthday as well ...
  • Yea, with a newb in the house I vote go simple- rent it out someplace!

  • Haven't started to plan yet but I felt like her first birthday party at our home was a huge success. We had a ton of friends and coworkers over, making up for living across the country from any family members. Our pool was a lot of fun for everyone but I do think we will have a smaller party next year.

We also had a fun time recently at an indoor bounce house venue for a friend's party but it was very dingy and not good for photos.
  • With a one month old, and after talking to DH, I think we're going with very small party at home.
Talking it through, we realized it'd be so much easier to have everything there to take care of baby, and everything is already set for DD to run around where ever she wants.
Now, if I were to still be PG in August, I'd TOTALLY rent a place. Clean and cook while 9 months? No thank you.

  • I've started planning in that I'm planning not to do a party this year. We're probably going to the zoo. Anyone else with kids who also fancies a trip to the zoo that day can join us. If I know a few people are joining us ahead of time I might bring cupcakes and juice boxes. Or I might not.
  • I'm late to the party, but I probably won't do anything big. There were...issues with DH's parents at DD's first birthday, so, yeah. Probably will do something small with my parents, sister and BIL, and their little one (who's due in February!).

  • DS1 birthday is 8/2/11. DS2 was due 8/13/13 but didn't arrive until 8/24/13. So for DS1's 2nd birthday we just did cake and presents with grandparents and uncle. It was small and kind of boring, but all I could handle at 39 weeks pregnant in August. Honestly the idea of renting someplace or planning a party scared us because I was afraid I'd go into labor before, right after...or worse...DURING! haha I would definitely consider renting though. Even with the most powerful of nesting issues, it would be a pain to prepare for an at home party when expecting.
