I am 37yrs old with my first pregnancy and havent really had any problems up until now...I work a lot (6-7days, 10-12hour shifts) and I will be 34 weeks on Thursday...I previously posted about the problems I'm having working but I wanted to know is it bad to ask to taken off work before 36weeks? I know I'm more fortunate than others that I am employed, but for the past 5-6months all this time on my feet and working has really taken a toll on me (i work in a rubber factory and my job is to use a propane flame to burn excess rubber off the parts that are molded and my work area is near a very volatile area with various chemicals and it catches fire a lot as well; not ideal conditions for a pregnant person to be around for great lengths of time). My Dr says at 36weeks he will write me off but I know my body can't take it anymore and I'm worried about the stress on the baby from working so much and being on my feet for these long periods of time. If I had weekends off and was able to rest up that prob wouldn't make my situation so bad but I don't have any time off. Since I was in L&D last week for evaluation my HR dept put me on unpaid personal leave until i see my Dr tomorrow morning. The time off seems to have let me chill but I'm in no way physically able to go back to being on my feet for 7days straight 10-12hours daily...I already get dizzy/naseaus, swelling, cramping, etc while at work...I'm not allowed to be put on any restrictions by my Dr if I want to work these last few weeks....what is the best approach to use with my Dr appt in the morning? Tbh I'm shocked I've been able to work this long...can anyone give me advice on what to do and how to bring this up at my appt in the morning? This stresses me out a lot....Thanks
Re: Is it bad or how do I ask my Dr to write me off of work earlier than planned?
BFP #2 11/6/13 - EDD 7/14/14 - blighted ovum discovered @ 7w - natural m/c @ 10w3d

A/S findings: Baby is a girl! EIF found on heart
but maternit21 came back neg for chromosome disorders!!
But I agree with PP. Just bring it up with your doctor and tell him what you told us.
@slezpass I agree that you should say to your doctor what you've said here. I've cried in front of a doctor once (as an adult) so I'm sure they've seen and heard it all. Don't be shy, as this really does sound like a terrible place to work while being as pregnant as you are.
Good luck!
Personally I would just tell my doctor I'm having trouble being able to make it through anymore. Cutting hours back for a couple more weeks is out of the question. I would then just ask to write me leave now please. Worst the doctor can say is no.
Also- working 10-12 hour days 6-7 days per week isn't legal I believe. (Someone correct me) I believe after so many days you need a specific number off. I would be finding a new job for after birth and possibly checking into those labor laws.
Thanks for all your advice and support...I will let you all know what happens in the morning after my Dr appt. Ater the appt I'm supposed to meet with my HR. I'm trying to sleep right now but this all has me just too stressed out.
I definitely take my hat off to you, sounds tough.
Take the extra time off work, put your feet up, have cake and watch junk tv. You deserve it.
Best of luck!!
