What is this?!?

Plz don't yell if there's a post like this! I did search and found similar posts but didn't see any with exactly what I want to ask!! I'm a FTM and 21wks. About a wk ago, I started having these symptoms. Here goes, I feel ok if I'm sittn down, but soon as I stand up to walk, there's ALOT of pressure down there round bladder and all. And lower back pain too. Also hurts when I lay down. It's constant when I'm standing or laying down. Also, feels like I have to pee alot too. I went to dr yesterday and do have a UTI, but can that cause so much pain and pressure? I know you all aren't drs, just needed some input from anyone that has experienced this!! What is it?!

Re: What is this?!?

  • @GFJ48‌ it almost feels like the baby is about to fall out, there's so much pressure!?!

  • If you explained these symptoms to your Dr. and they didn't seem concerned then I would say you'll just have to deal with the discomfort for now, unfortunately.
Keep track of how long you have been feeling it.  Mark it on a calendar so when you see your dr again you can be accurate.
If you are really concerned that it goes beyond a UTI then call your Dr's office for a follow up to discuss.
I have not had a UTI while pregnant but I would imagine it to feel the way you have described considering there is a baby pushing on your already irritated bladder/urinary tract.
    Good luck.

Likely to arrive via induction or c-sec 1-2 weeks early

  • Could be a contraction? I felt that in my last pregnancy and it was just pressure from baby, but that didn't start until well into 3rd tri. Sometimes I feel pressure, but that's from a contraction. I'd recommend to push water big time and lay on your left side.
  • Thanks y'all!! I did explain it to my dr yesterday and she says it's from UTI and the stretching!!! Said myself and the baby were fine and everything is on track. (Went for anatomy scan)
  • My baby sits low and sometimes feels like there is a bowling ball just sitting down there.
  • @leekee816‌ yes it's a heaviness like that but constant!! Except when I'm sitting.

Yep. I had that at 16 weeks. Once you take meds for the UTI, it'll go away, but if your baby sits low, it'll come back every now and then. Don't be worried when it does as long as your doc knows and they don't seem concerned, just like the other PPs said. I'm a FTM and a hypochondriac, so I've been there :).

ETA to correct spelling and to say that I also had spotting around the same time and got super freaked out. But all was well! Just a UTI and a low baby stretching everything out down there.
  • @leekee816‌ thank u so much! My dr told me it SHOULD go away with the antibiotic. And yeh my LO is right at my bladder. I had this feeling before but neverrr hurt like this!
  • No spotting thank goodness. Just ALOT of pressure down below and backache :((
  • It's most likely the Uti. I actually thought I had one a few weeks ago but it turned out I was severely dehydrated from the cold I had that never ended. Also my LO sits low and I offen feel heavy down there.
  • About a month ago, I was up all night one night with frequent, dribbling urination, pressure and just general discomfort. I went to my OB and was told there was no bacteria in my urine, so he was pretty sure that it wasn't a UTI and more of an irritated bladder due to pregnancy. Three days later, I was doubled over in pain and peeing even more. I called my OB's after hours line and he decided to treat it as a UTI/bladder infection. Within two days of antibiotics, I felt nearly 100%. Definitely take the antibiotic. You'll feel a ton better, I promise.

  • Yeah, it was right around pill #4 that the relief started. I also upped my water intake and took an Azo cranberry pill twice a day.

  • @tinyjoys‌ I forgot about AZO's!! I just took pill num 3 and a hot bath. Tomorrow I need to def get some AZO's and drink lots of water!!!! Thank you!!! :x
  • If you don't feel better in a day or two go to a dr. You can get a kidney infection if left untreated
  • @rivers714‌ I'm taking Keflex prescribed by my OB dr. It's a 10 day course so I'm hoping to feel better SOON!! And thx!!
  • and to help prevent any further UTIs, do the basics: lots of water, wipe front-to-back, and always try to pee after sex, if not as well as before.

@JuliaRL‌ I think it's the drink lots of water part I'm missing!
  • I've had two UTI's since being pregnant (I'm prone to them whether or not I'm pregnant), and they felt exactly like you describe. For me they go away much more quickly if I take the antibiotic just as they say, and drink LOTS of water. I also take a cranberry pill (found mine at Walmart) and probiotics all the time to help prevent them. Sorry you have one, they're not fun, at all.
  • @serenesky‌ what were ur symptoms? I think I may be dehydrated as well!?!
