Hi all. Are you doing kick counts? If so, are you doing them at the same time each day or just when you start feeling baby move? How many times a day is sufficient?
I'm under the impression that kick counts aren't really something you have to worry about until after 28 weeks. My doctor said to count how long it takes baby to kick 10 times, and to try to do it around the same time everyday when baby is most active. I did a quick Google search and found this website, which has the same info my Dr gave me. https://www.countthekicks.org/faq/
No. I figure at my next appointment my doc will probably address it, but I feel baby frequently and he is very active at night so I figure he's doing ok. Maybe I don't worry enough though?
I didn't even know this was a thing until right now. Add me to the camp with @mrsalvidrez of not worrying enough. He moves around in there daily, ninja kicks me occasionally, and I assume all is well until the dr tells me otherwise.
I am 27 weeks and have not been advised to do kick counts yet. I bet at my next one my MW will bring it up. I mean I take notice when she is moving but do not particularly panic yet if I don't have a certain amount of action.
I just had my 28 week appt and the MW didn't say anything about movement until I asked. She said if I don't feel anything for 4 hours to give them a call. That's it.
I'm 28 weeks, and I find kick counts really difficult to keep track of. I usually go off the times when he is most active and his daily pattern so if I feel he hasn't followed his routine I get him checked. I find it hard as he is very active so my midwife said using his usual pattern is fine xx
My doctor said that if I feel the baby a occasionally throughout the day, all is good. No need to count ten kicks in an hour, he thinks that's apsurd. Babies have more and less active days so I feel her all the time sometimes and some days it is not as much. Plus, I am super active and always walking around so I don't concentrate on it so much. Honestly, counting like that would drive me crazy.
I've been doing kick counts since 24 weeks and I do it once a day. My OB advised me to start at 24 weeks because of certain risk factors, but I think its pretty standard to start around 28 weeks.
I try to do it around the same time every night, but if I feel him being extra active a little earlier in the evening, I will start counting then.
I use an app on my phone, it's called (Count Kicks!) and it is easy to use and makes the whole process simple.
"Starting at 28 weeks, take time twice each day to focus on your baby's movements. It needs to be a time when you can completely focus on the baby without interruption. Do not watch television, talk on the phone, read, or have a conversation while doing your fetal movement count. The best time to do your count is when your baby is most active. Another good time is about 20 minutes after you eat.
A movement can be a kick, wiggle, or head turn. Any movement counts. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to a full hour.
If you do not count 10 movements within one hour, drink some cold juice and repeat the movement count for another hour. If you still do not count 10 movements, call the office or after hours number."
That being said, I'm wondering if I feel him regularly throughout the day, do I need to worry so much about 10 kicks in an hour? I'm sure he reaches that number easily. Maybe some moms don't pay too much attention to movements and miss it when the movements slow down or disappear?
I never counted kicks with my first. He kicked so much I would have gone crazy trying to keep up. He was very very active. And this one has days where he is active and days where he isn't. He has been this way since I started feeling him. I figure it's just his personality. If he starts doing something different, then I'll worry.
@mbm1983 I do the same thing. If she doesn't move I eat something sweet and wait five min. I have also found that putting my spot light on belly from my phone has worked wonders too. Kick counts were always so hard to keep track of cause babies sleep a lot during the day.
With my last pregnancy, my doctor said not to worry about kick counts. She just said to call if I hadn't felt ANY movement for a day. I'm 27 weeks and my midwives haven't said anything about kick counts yet, so I'm taking the same approach unless they tell me differently.
This sounds terrifying. Maybe in 2 weeks she'll be moving a lot more? I feel her at least once a day now, but certainly not "10 in an hour" kinds of countable. I'm too neurotic to have to worry about something like that; my doctor has just asked if I feel her move. I hope that's all he says.
My doc actually advised me not to start until 32 weeks just because people get so worked up about a lack of movement when baby could just be sleeping. That said, this lo moves ALL. THE. TIME! With DS I freaked out all the time about kick counts and he was totally fine.
I didn't have to with my first and so far my OB hasn't said anything. He use to ask if I felt the baby move. My girls are very active so I guess since I always said that he wasn't concerned with kick counts
