April 2015 Moms

For those who see a chiro...

How often do you go?  My old one from the gym honestly sucks and is pretty much afraid to touch me.  I have an appointment with a new guy on Thursday and can't freaking wait!!

Same question for those who get pre-natal massages -- how often?

Re: For those who see a chiro...

  • Growing up I went 3 times a week because I had scoliosis but that was kind of a special situation. I would recommend going at least once a month, but your chiro should be able to tell you how often you need to go. It usually depends on the person. As far as prenatal massage I go once a month. I don't think there is like a rule of thumb to follow. If I had the money I would go every other week or maybe even every week! Once again ask the therapist and she could probably tell you.

  • I just started with mine yesterday and she is fantastic. She has a background doing chiropractic work on women who are pregnant which was very comforting to me. I'm going initially 3 days per week and once my lower back is feeling better I'll go about once per week. She said she will adjust me as close to delivery as possible too which is amazing!

  • I go twice a week, sometimes 3 times if I feel I need it, however my lower back and sacrum are seriously messed up from an athletic injury and my last pregnancy.

I've also only had one massage so far this pregnancy...while it feels really nice and is relaxing, I feel like getting adjustments at the chiro has been a lot more beneficial in the lasting effects.

  • I do both once a month. If I need to I can go in for an adjustment in between, but my chiropractor is doing once a month until 28wks then every 2 weeks.

I see my chiro as needed. I saw him on Saturday, and boy, was I sore the next day. He is very comfortable adjusting me while pregnant. He adjusted his kids in the hospital nursery right after they were born. He offered to adjust my colicky newborn son, but I just couldn't do it. It's one thing to trust him with my back, and it's a whole other ball game to trust him with my baby's. He's been adjusting my family for over a decade. I love my chiro.

A girl I went to school with is a chiropractor and insisted I have my son adjusted since he was so colicky. I just couldn't do it. Such a fragile little body...Id rather have him sleep on top of me for 8 weeks and be exhausted than to risk something happening to him.

  • I go to the chiro once per week. Tomorrow! Can't wait!
  • Mine always assess what's going on and tells me when they would like to see me again. Usually when I first start going in its weekly or twice a week and then spreads out as things improve. If you can afford a prenatal massage before every adustment that I would totally do that. I would if I could afford it for sure.

I kept reading this as "Asses" and couldn't get past it...I had to go back twice before I realized I was reading "assess"... ;)

  • Whoop!  I go Thursday and can't wait!  I've got 3 prenatal massages already paid for at the place I love!  They were $26 each and then I got 5% back on ebates through groupon.  My plan is to use one this month, one Feb, one March.  I suspect by April I wont be real comfortable to lay there for an hour.

Thanks for all the info ladies!

  • I go twice a month. My chiro has a deal where you sign up for a twice-monthly program and pay $50 a month. My H bought me a prenatal massage for xmas, so I need to work that into my rotation.
  • They wanted me to go 3 times a week, but as insurance only covered 8 visits I wanted to stretch those out and only went once a week. I no longer go since I can't afford out-of-pocket care.
  • My chiropractor specializes in pregnant women, and recommends about 1 time a week in the third trimester. It definitely helps!
