I'll be having my first hsg in a few weeks, so I can't tell you my personal experience. Many of the ladies on here have mentioned that there is discomfort following and bloating is normal as they're filling you with fluid!

Good luck on your injects cycle!

I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I scheduled mine. It was terrible. Take lots of pain killers before hand if you can. Some women don't have an issue, and that it probably more likely. Good thing for me was after the 30 seconds of hell, I never had any other problems.

  • I had the HSG last Wednesday they said take Motrin ahead of time and I did but that did not help. I felt the same way it was so painful. They did not prepare me for that kind of pain. Sorry it was painful for you too!
  • Yeah... I've been reading up on the HSG tests since I am going in a couple of weeks. This has me twice as anxious! Dang it! :((
  • I'm having terrible side effects from my 2nd HSG today.  (Thanks RE for wanting to do the test yourself)

I can handle the cramps, but I cannot handle this gas (?) pain. I feel like I have gas trapped in my upper abdomen and chest. Go figure, both tubes were still open. The right tube seemed to be having some trouble, she couldn't tell if it was in the middle of a spasm, or what -- but she had to pump quite a bit of extra air in to get the dye through.

I ended up calling the RE because the upper abdominal pain seemed excessive. She told me it's normal from the air being pumped into my uterus and then traveling to the pelvic region, and onward in my body. Still doesn't help.

Anybody else have this as a side effect?

@humblebee2‌ try laying down with a pillow under you hips. The gas will move to the "highest" spot it can get to.
