Hello all... my baby is still breech and doc is considering doing an ECV; what are your thoughta on this procedure? has anyone done one? if not then c-sec will be done and I wanted natural .... help please! gotta make the decision tonight. TIA
I don't have any experience with having one done, but I have looked into a bit, seeing as my little guy seemed to be very comfortable lying transverse(Yes, I know I still have awhile that he could've turned on his own. Paranoid FTM.).
In my opinion, if your doctor is comfortable with it and the rest of the pregnancy has been going well, I'd have no problem getting one done. I'm sure your doctor considered this, but if it hasn't been brought up and you're RH-, I'd talk to them about that. From what I've read, you may need another rhogam injection.
I did do the version with DD @ 37 weeks and it was not successful for me; however, as discussed in previous posts, there is a 58% success rate and even higher if you're the right candidate. For me, it was super uncomfortable but I trusted my Dr and was monitored carefully.
I ended up with a c-sec and while it was furthest from my desired birth plan (I also wanted natural), everyone is happy and healthy today. PM me if you have any specific qs
I guess im not really worried about it being a csec if i had no choice.... I just didnt want to put my body through an additional process that was maybe unnecessary or that it may not work if you guys get me. I wanted more of an opinion to see if what i was thinking was way off or to see if it worked and it was not as painful as i think it is.... Thanks soo much to all. :-SS
I've heard it can be very painful as well as send you into labor. Not every momma is able to get a version, if your doctor is suggesting it as an option then you most likely fit the requirements. Everyone I've known who was considering one was told no by their doctor given their own and the baby's medical status. It's hard to let go of what you may have wanted but it doesn't mean that things can't turn out wonderful for you no matter what you choose to do.
I understand you had a plan and you are disappointed, but your wish should be for a healthy baby. The end.
I see nothing in the OP's post that indicates that not what she's wishing for.
There's nothing wrong with someone considering doing what they can to avoid a C-section.
I agree with a PP, the OP needs to talk to her doctor more about the pros and cons and potential risks so she can assess whether an ECV or a C section would be better for her and her baby.
I spoke to my doc and said that his rate of sucess ia 60%, that it is uncomfortable but if we wanted to go natural its worth the try... he did tell me he can turn her but ahe might turn again (crossing fingers that doesnt happen).... I guess he told me his stats but is always comforting to hear other ppls experiences and results to weigh your options.
This happened to me last time. Dd was breech and I was heart set on natural birth. After doing research and talking with my doctor I decided against it.
It took me awhile to get over the fact that I didn't birth the way I wanted but in the end a healthy baby was what I wanted. Plus I'd rather have a scheduled c section than an emergency one.
@brendall99 I hope it works out for you! I totally understand the desire to avoid a c-section. If you decide to do it, let us know how it goes. Good luck!

I'm a March momma, but we all know we want healthy babies, but her feelings matter too.
I wanted a natural birth as well and my DS was breech. I begged my doctor to do a version and he was old fashioned and said no. Found out after seeking care from him that he is the most surgical OB in our area. My now midwife calls him Edward Scissor Hands. From looking at my records my midwife doesn't understand why my doctor flat out said no. Anyway, I went ahead with he c/s because my son never turned, but really wish I would have gotten a second opinion. I was blessed with a health baby boy, but I hated my c/s and my feelings about my birth matters. I experience horrible PPD and believe my section had something to do with it. Also, keep in mind once you have a c/s, you will then be dealing with trying for a VBAC next time and will run into issues with that at times too.
I say if your doctor is comfortable trying the version and you are too, then try it. I regret not trying and wondering if I could have avoided my section, but I'll never know. Praying for my VBAC in March now.
Good luck with your decision!
Edited for spelling error and to explain better...
PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps... Mom to Carter (6), and Calianne (1). Proud VBAC, natural birth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering momma!
I decided not to go through with it I guess I was too scared... kept thinking of all the cons and I have faith that she might turn this week. I am trying to do all i can do turn her on my own [-O< . I didnt want to put her through any trauma and of course myself; I was too confused to make the decision so went for a no (hoping ia the best decision). Thank you all sooo much for all the replies it really helped and made me feel 100 times better to get your opinions.
I am 36 weeks and my baby is still breech. My doctor talked to me about an evc but I decided against it. It only has about a 58% success rate and there are complications that can happen while it is being done. I didn't want to take the chance for such a little success rate. I have a C-section scheduled for 2/2/15 just in case he doesn't flip. If he does flip we will just cancel the C-section and have a natural "vaginal" birth.
