okay so I'm due feb 5 ... I have type 2 diabetes and my Gyno want to induce me on feb 1 ... However, baby is going very well and I have been doing everything they say.. Next week I will know his weight but I believe he is about 6 1/2 pound base on his last weight dec 30 which was 5 1/2 pound so he won't be a big baby... Now my question is do you think it is safe to go forward with the induce or should I tell her to hold on. She told me she want to induce me the same week cause she doesn't want to take the risk of anything happening...

This is not the best place to get personal medical advice. You need to discuss the risks and benefits with your Gyno. We can't help you here.

Here are some questions to ask to get you started:

Ask her why an induction?

What are the risks of not doing an induction and the pregnancy going to 40wks? 41wks? 42wks? For you and the baby.

What are the risks of doing an induction? For you and the baby.

Is there something that can be monitored to base the decision on (rather than basing the decision on statistical risk assessments)? Eg. Glucose levels, kidney efficiency, amniotic fluid. I'm not a doctor so I have no idea, but the thing to monitor would likely be the thing identified as a risk (which may or may not be something that can be monitored).

Based on the above answers can we consider a later induction date to allow for the possibility of natural labour?

If you cannot understand this then IMO I would just go with what your doctor says. Not everyone is blessed with all skills of intellect.

If you're having doubts about being induced why not talk to your doctor? I'm sure if you ask why she wants to induce you and what the potential risks are of not going through with the induction she'll explain everything to you.

I agree with PP. Just one additional idea - you can also seek a second opinion. If the 2nd dr says the same things, it'll give you that much more confidence that the 1st dr's recommendation is the way to go. If the 2nd dr says something different, that's also valuable info.

I'm also diabetic, type 1. You have to be able to communicate with your doctor's about your concerns. Many diabetic women are induced early due to risks to the baby. Best advice is to ask your doctor all your questions, don't leave anything out. If you arnt comfortable with the care your getting seek a second opinion. No one here on the Internet will have the information you need. We don't know your situation nor are we trained to give medical advice.....

That's only 4 days before you're due. It might not come to that. And if it does then you have to do what you are comfortable with. Good luck.

My dr mentioned possibly inducing me at 39 weeks and I'm praying I go naturally before then so I don't have to make that decision. I go back and forth in my head everyday...

Are they inducing you due to the echogenic focus as well? My doctor is wanting to induce me at 39 weeks because of the risks with the EF, but it's since cleared up and he's been very healthy and active since. They are following the orders of the specialist that signed off on me. It's making me nervous to induce

No, not due to the EF. In fact, I didn't even get a follow up u/s so I guess they are not worried. But my baby's EF was in the heart. The induction wouldn't be for any medical reason.

I didn't read the PP, but 4 days won't make much of a difference. Try having babies 2 months ahead of time...and they're perfect. Stop worrying.

dreemkin84 Oh, well I'm glad they aren't concerned for the EF then! They keep scaring me into saying he could be a still born, he could stop growing, etc. So they basically want to induce me at 39 weeks because they don't want to look for something to go wrong

dreemkin84 Seriously! I mean I know induction isn't the end of the world, I'm just worried about the increased risk of a c section and I was really wanting to do this without an epidural if I can. I've heard induction can be more painful as far as contractions. My heart says he's healthy and he will be fine, but man do doctors love to tell you the worst case scenario!

@racheltherose‌ I totally understand. With my DD my water broke with no labor so I basically did have to be induced with pitocin. I have nothing to compare with but contractions did get intense quickly and I got the epi. Had her 24h after my water broke. Close to a c-section.

@zsmommy we are all well, they are both gaining weight perfectly, Kinley is up to 5 pounds already and Kyler is right behind her at 4lbs11oz!!

I'm having a second repeat csection and they schedule repeat csections a week before your due date at 39 weeks so to be induced a few days early will be totally fine. My second was 7lbs 13oz being born at 39 weeks.

Just do what's comfortable for you and what you feel is right.
