Concerned momma

Hi, ladies. I’m 30 weeks along with fraternal twins (Girl and Boy). I started doing weekly BPPs and NSTs and they are concerned about baby boy’s umbilical cord blood flow. They upped my appointments to 2 times a week to monitor it and yesterday I was sent to LD for extended monitoring. That totally freaked me out and I now realize I should bring a packed bag to the hospital in case they send me over there for the real thing! The umbilical artery S/D ratio is at 5.6 and they say they don’t want it to be above a 4?? I don’t really understand how it all works and its driving me crazy. I asked the Doc and she explained very little. so if anyone has any input I’d love to be enlightened??  I am mostly just really concerned/nervous and looking for support.

Re: Concerned momma

  • @WAMOM and @EmpireRecords24 Thanks! They are a little worried about IUGR. They said that they are more worried that the blood flow will reverse or become absent, and that its caused by an insufficient placenta. I guess I'm just curious at what number or ratio is considered to the point where it would be flowing a backwards. I asked but she didn't really answer. I've asked two Docs and they just tell me its too complicated to explain. i just thought i'd throw it out in case anyone else had experienced it. I'm already going in twice a week for it to be monitored and I'll defiantly be packing a bag and bringing it with from now on!

  • My son was IUGR and I had to do BPPs in addition to already having twice a week NSTs due to GD. I will say that at least they have seemed to figure out what is causing issues, so that's a positive. With my son they could never figure out what was causing him not to grow and even tested the placenta after he was born. I would keep drilling the doctors and make them explain to you exactly what is going on. Don't take its too complicated to explain for an answer. You deserve to know what's going on with your baby.

  • Thanks so much everyone! @BBnut thank you! that was very helpful, I like the pictures of the waves to help explain what it looks like. I like to know whats going on when I'm in the room and its so frustrating when doctors don't want to explain
  • Sorry you are going through this. No advice. Good luck.
