NBR: Cuba resort recommendations

Hey ladies, (ok mostly the Canadian bumpies) have you been to Cuba and have a place you would recommend? I'm trying to book a vacation for my parents and my dad seems to think Cuba is a good idea. I've been once and the place was ok. I'm looking for some other places though. Thanks!

    I'm so jealous! My great grandparents use to vacation in Havana in the winter. Hopefully easing up on sanctions there means we can visit soon!
    Our little Samosa arrives in January!

    @sewvt86‌ no Gitmo wasn't quite the vacation I was thinking. Lol!

    @katrine_05‌ it's for my birthday mom's 60th so who knows, maybe they will party hard. Lol! Though I suspect it will be a lot of sun, margaritas, books and early nights! (at least that's all I'm willing to imagine! ) :)

    @DCKate‌ it's a beautiful country. Though I can't say it's a place I have any desire To visit a second time!

    No advice, we've never been there. Just to the Dominican! But GL planning and I'm super jealous, we won't be able to go anywhere until the end of 2015 or early 2016.

    I wish I was going. I'm just planning the trip for my parents! DH and I are planning a trip in early 2016 though, and that will likely be to the Dominicanor back to Mexico since we love it so much! @MichieU79‌ thanks for offering to ask your dad, but I need to book it before my parents come back from a short trp to Quebec City. My mom thinks that's her birthday present, but will return to find out that they are hitting the beach in a few short weeks!

    I've been 3 times. Last year we went to Iberostar Varadero and really enjoyed it, except for the bugs, but that was my fault for not wearing bug spray.

    I've heard Playa Costa Verde is excellent

    In general you want at least 4.5 stars. Tripadvisor is really helpful in reading reviews etc.

    Can I just say that Castro was my great uncle by marriage?  My aunt's mom had an affair with him and had a baby with him (my aunt's half-sister).  Weird family links. ;)
