drinking alcohol and bfing

I know it's OK to have a few drinks while breastfeeding. But how do you ensure the milk is safe for lo? I have the test strip so do I just pump and theno test it? I'm only thinking of having a drink or 2...nor hung crazy

  • exactly what @casey78 said.

here is some cited info from LLL if you're interested: https://www.lalecheleague.org/faq/alcohol.html

if you plan on having several drinks, try to time it so it's right after you've nursed. by the time you're ready to nurse again, most alcohol should be gone from your. milk if you're drinking lightly (like, one glass of wine or a bottle of beer), the amount that's in your milk should be so miniscule that i wouldn't even give it a second thought.

  • Ditto to what everyone said. Casey78--I've heard that too about your BAC that of orange juice. The only thing I'm confused about is how that can be because if my BAC is .08 then I'm drunk or buzzed....so how is it that milk is also .08 but considered to be the content of what's found in orange juice? Does that make sense?

@eggmankate‌ - say you drink 2 glasses of 14% wine. The wine mixes into your bloodstream, milk, other fluids in your body, and metabolizes. And that's how it's diluted to .08%. If the wine started out at .08%, it would dilute/metabolize to something much much much smaller like .0008% (for the record, that number is made up, but you know what I mean...)
    Yep, this, @eggmankate‌.
Oh, OK. So if my DD drinks my alcohol-tainted breastmilk which is .08% then it's going to dilute to .08% for her as well?
