Fever Blisters

Are you more prone to fever blisters when you are pregnant? I got one a few weeks ago and it went away. And now I woke up this morning and I have the beganings of two.
What can I take while I'm pregnant to make them go away?

Re: Fever Blisters

  • I have gotten these my whole life usually twice a year when the weather changes. I've always taken acyclovir and it kicks it before there's any breakout. But valrex and valcyclovir are also the same. They're prescription but category B and work almost instantly.

  • I had a knarly one around 15 weeks. Abreva is category C, like most meds. I ended up just putting neosporin or vaseline on it and leaving it alone. They do eventually go away.

  • Best cure for them as preventative which I was told by my dentist -- vitamin D-2000.  I take 1 every day and haven't had one since I started doing that.  If I forget for any period of time one always turns up within a month.

Also if it is starting try putting ice on them then using vit E oil directly on them (make sure its ok when pg).

  • I've had them bad my whole life, like 2-3 a month, I take valacyclovir daily as a maintenence med. It's cat B and when I feel the tingle of one, my doc approved taking 2 for 3 days in a row. They're a strain of herpes, and like any other strain, the outbreaks increase when your immune system is diminished. Sometimes pregnancy alone can cause the diminishing, other times it can be pregnancy combined with other issues - even something as simple as chapped lips. Stay hydrated and keep your skin well cared for as that's the organ that's affected.
