Can you prepare me for US at 6w1d?

We have our first US tomorrow at 6w1d. I've never had an US so early and I know there's a good chance that we won't see a HB. I am pretty sure about my O date and based on my LMP, I'd be 6w4d (so definitely should be AT LEAST 6w1d). I've seen so many posts about seeing the HB late 5w/early 6w that I think I'm going to be worried if we don't see a HB, even though I keep telling myself that there is a chance.

I'm assuming that even if we don't see a HB, they can still measure the growth to see if we are on track, right?

Does anyone know the probability of seeing/not seeing a HB?

I don't have any statistics, but I know I've seen posts where a HB was not seen at 6w and then was seen at the next U/S. It's for this reason that my doctor's office prefers to do the first u/s at 7w-- because they've seen so many people get freaked out and worry for a week and then go on to see a HB at the next one. I really hope you see one, though, so you can rest more easily!

You -should- be able to see the heartbeat at that point, but not necessarily. You should definitely be able to see the fetal pole and I believe that is enough for measurements. Good luck!

I had an u/s with my DD at 6 weeks and 7 weeks, no HB. After much worry I went back at 8 weeks and there was her beautiful HB, nice and strong. You *could* hear or see a HB but don't be too concerned if you don't.

You're right on the cusp for a HB, especially if your dates aren't certain. Going in with an understanding that there's a wide variation in what might be seen seems best. Good luck!!!

I went in for my initial u/s at what I though was 7w0d but ended up being 6w0d. We could not hear the hb but there was a slight flicker of it that would have been easily missed had my OB not pointed it out. There is a possibility to see it but equipment and other factors could affect the likelihood of being seen on the scan. They will be able to measure growth though.

Usually at 6w1d a heartbeat should be visible but if you're off by even a day on ovulation or wen implanted late there is a good chance you won't see one. Have a good appointment and I hope you do get to see a wonderful beating heart! Don't worry if it's a little slow though, right around now is when the heart just starts beating.

I had an u/s at 7w2d because I wanted to make sure there was a HB (all my losses were pre-HB)...but LO measured at 6 weeks exactly - a whole 9 days behind! Doppler couldn't pick up the HB but we could see the heart movement on the screen. Follow-up u/s 6 days later (8w1d) showed LO measuring 7w5d - just 3 days behind now, with a beautiful HB. Two weeks later, LO was only measuring 1 day behind.

So while you may not see a HB, don't give up faith! Before this LO, I never would've thought a 9 day difference could be made up, but I had good betas and good progesterone levels so it all worked out. FX for you!

We did FET & went in at 6 weeks exactly. Seen gestational sac & yolk sac but no heartbeat. RE said he was not concerned & that's all he was looking for
