TMI- possible vaginal prolapse

Before I get started, yes I've called my doctor & I've googled, which has me convinced I'm going to have to have a hysterectomy and has me freaking out a little. I delivered one week ago naturally.

Anywho, maybe one of you ladies can ease my mind!
I was having issues with dryness & discomfort and assumed maybe I was having issues with the pads I was using, after changing those and still no help I felt down there to see if something might be wrong. It's like my vagina is coming out of my vaginal opening. The ridged part that is usually on the inside front more specifically. My OB nurse when I called said if there's nothing actually hanging out then it could just be swelling and to either look with a mirror or have my husband check. He looked and said that something is definitely not right. I'm going to call & make an appointment but until then, has anyone had anything similar & it be completely normal? I've worried myself pretty much sick so just hoping for some peace of mind!

Stitches, swelling and whatnot can make things a little wonky while you are healing. I hate to break it to you, but you may have a new kind of normal going on down there, or you may have a problem. Either way, I am glad you are calling your dr and making an appointment.

There is nothing you can do about it right now other than make use of your ice packs and put your feet up as much as possible and stay off Dr. Google.

  • I'd be interested to see what the doctor says. Hysterectomy is not really the go to for prolapse. Some other treatment options available first... sorry you are goung through this, it can be very unnerving :-(

  • I remember this with my first. I called my doctor and said "my insides are on the outside!" and they freaked out and got me in right away. They almost seemed disappointed when they looked and saw what I was talking about (which sounds just like what you're talking about). Welcome to your new norm. Things move, drop and change after pushing a human out of there. Why do you think that doctors that specialize in vaginal reconstruction make a killing? It'll change a little bit over the next few months as you heal and won't look the way it does now, but it certainly won't look how it use to pre-baby.
  • Yeah, it's probably still swollen. Give it time.

  • Even if it is a vaginal prolapse, they wouldn't do a hysterectomy. Now, if it were a uterine prolapse, that's a different story.
  • My friend had uterine prolapse, her uterus was falling out of her vagina. Although I'm not much help, because I can remember the course of action she had to take...
  • I'm experiencing this for the first time (child #4 delivered 17days ago).  I also visited webmd and they didn't make it seem like it was a crazy emergency.  Mine is worse in the evening than in the morning.  I'm doing kegals and trying to strengthen my pelvic floor muscles.  Now, for me, it seems like maybe the uterus is dropping really low, to the point that it may protrude, but NOT ACTUALLY COMING OUT.  If there was actually something coming out, I'd be banging on my OB's door, but it's not, so I'm trying the solutions webmd suggested.  It's been a few days now and it seems to be helping.

  • I feel like that now and I haven't even had my baby yet (this is my 4th). I just saw my OB today and nothing is wrong...  I think it's swelling. I'm not a doctor though so I'm glad you're seeing yours! good luck! hope everything is normal and you just have to do more kegels.
  • *100% lurker here* Just wanted to say I am 3 wks pp and I had this exact same thing happen last week. I freaked out and called my OB and they had me come in right away. It turns out, just like one of the pp's suggested, it was my bladder. My Dr said it can happen and it should resolve itself, and not to worry. Just wanted to reassure you because I know how scared I was.
  • Went to OB today & it is in fact my bladder! It's fairly common & normal, and the dryness is from breastfeeding & low estrogen. It's not a great combo, if anyone was wondering! :-S

Anywho, it should straighten itself out in a few weeks and until then I just have to get used to being rather uncomfortable in the downstairs region!

  • Glad it will fix itself! I would have been freaking out too! Good call on getting it looked at!
