Cloth Diapering

Crochet peeps

I've recently revisited crocheting, and for the first time ever am tackling crochet patterns. The shorthand has me all kinds of confused. I got the dc= double stitch down, but wth is 2dc? I'm trying to make a baby hat using this pattern: https://www.crochetspot.com/free-crochet-pattern-newborn-baby-hat/ but once I got to the 2dc I got totally miffed. Now my hat just keeps widening like a little flower and that just won't sit snugly on a newborn's head! Bonus points for video tutorials because I'm having trouble finding one...

Re: Crochet peeps

  • I think it means to do two double crochets, one after the other.

  • It's like rnd 1 where you did 12 dc in one of the first chain stitches. For rnd 2, you're going to do two dc stitches in each of the 12 dc you did in rnd 1 for a total of 24dc in that rnd. That's what the :24dc means.
  • Yup. dc=double crochet, so 2 dc simply means 2 double crochets. In this case, 2 stitches into the same space.

  • Thanks, ladies! I get it now. This is what I get for trying to be crafty!
  • @haileyq Crochet patterns are difficult to read. I've found some where I only figured it out by looking at the pictures & I'm a pretty experienced crocheter. Just keep at it & it gets easier.

Also, you've totally inspired me to crochet a baby beanie for my friends' new granddaughter. :)
