I'm looking for answers on this also, as I'm keeping my lifting/cardio routine + protein shakes going. I've read a little bit on the subject, and have considered switching to an all natural protein blend. What I've gathered from reading is as long as you aren't relying on a shake to deliver necessary nutrients, and more of a supplemental 'snack' you should be fine. Real food is always better... but man oh man, one of my shakes with almond milk plus a tablespoon of almond butter tastes like ice cream!
I work for It Works and we sell a protein shake that is safe for use during pregnancy and nursing and is supposed to be cheaper than other brands out there. It's really not too bad either. I use it as a snack/meal in the afternoon or at lunch time with some milk. I will check with my doctor but everyone I know that has asked their doc got the OK so I'm assuming it's fine.
I asked my doctor yesterday-and protein shakes are fine-just check the ingredients and make sure they do not use bad artificial sweeteners-same for protein bars as well.
I'm a gym rat too and follow a high protein low carb diet normally, so for a while shakes and bars were my best friends!
Just don't take them alone-make them more part of a bigger brekkie. and in moderation of course!
Has anyone asked their doctor about Muscle Milk? That's the kind I've been drinking and I just read some not so great reviews on the Internet. It has me a little worried..can someone help me out with an answer?
Obviously double check with yor doctor, but I am shakeology drinker and beachbody coach, and all information says it is ok to drink while pregnant and nursing !
Big fan of 1/2 banana, 1tbsp sunflower butter, 1/2 c coconut milk (I have a nut allergy, otherwise I would use almond product) blenderized w chocolate shake
