Where do you find sitters?

Thinking of using Care.com to find a sitter for two nights two weeks from now- would you recommend it?  Or do you have any other ideas of where I could go online to find experienced sitters?  DH is going to be out of town and I need someone who can handle a toddler and a baby from about 4:30-9:00 pm, which rules out most people I already know.

Re: Where do you find sitters?

  • ive heard nothing but bad thigns about care.com. See if someone at church can be a mothers helper or knows of a mothers helper. usually their hours are weird like that

  • I worry about high school kids because a putting a crazed toddler to bed and dealing with an evening-fussy baby seems like a lot of work for one high schooler, even if they've babysat before.  We had a girl from church come before when O was already asleep, and even she brought her Mom with her.  I wish I could get them again but I think Mom works during the day.... This trip is such an annoyance to me, it totally ruins my whole damn week.  X(

  • Hmmm, two teens might work; I'll have to have DH email some people and see who might be OK to do that.

  • I asked around at our DC and found a sitter. It was nice since LO already knew the sitter and was comfortable with her. I agree that the church would be  a good place to ask. They may be able to recommend someone that they use/trust. I used care.com to find a nanny/sitter for LO when I first went back to work part time. I interviewed 3 people and found one I liked. She did great and I never had any issues with her. I will say that with care.com interviewing is key. The one lady I thought I would like since she looked  good on paper was the one I liked the least.
  • I found the nanny for Veronica on care.com and she was wonderful! Make sure you check references and do the interview.
